Ron,

I'll be there with two cars. I assume there's test'n'tune on Friday night too? I plan to break my mold and show up Friday night.

See y'all there,

Lou

I've got to make one Slant Six race this year. I have made them every year, since I found out about the series. Planning on being there Friday night for test and tune.

Guys, Danny has test and tune on Thursday night. I don't know how that will work out for you. In case that is too early in the week he usually has a short period of open time trials on Sat. before qualifying starts. Maybe a couple of quick time runs before qualifying will help us out. I sure need some extra seat time myself. I have not made many passes this season. (way too many red bulbs if you know what I mean).

On his web site, home page, Danny says test and tune Thur and Fri nites. I sent him an e-mail asking about a Fri TnT. Waiting for a reply. I can't come up 2 days early, but could make it on Friday.

Got to Wilkesborro Raceway, Thur afternoon. Spoke to Danny Dunn. He is allowing overnight camping, at the track. Got the car unloaded, about 4:00 pm, just in time for the skies to open. Thur nite TnT rained out. Will try again, tonight, Fri.

I am leaving Chapel Hill at 3 pm today. All set to t'n't Project V tonight, and my wife and friend will bring my '68 Dart to run tomorrow morning.

What if we get rained out?

What a great race. Anything could happen, and did...

Norm Foster took his first win in his freshly painted li'l Challenger running in the low 7.90s all day, beating Ron Hamby in the final by a margin of 0.0013 sec! That's about 1.5 inches at the finish line. Ron treed him bigtime, but couldn't hang on as Norm ran a perfect 7.910 on a 7.91 dial.

My buddy Nathan Swanson (Durham, NC) ran his first ever dragstrip passes in my '68 Dart and made it to the semis with runs against Charlie S and Rodney

Charlie S set a C/Nitrous record for 1/8th mile of 8.36, backed up with an 8.43.

The Drakes were back in force with Judy in her '69 cuda 'vert and Tom in his daily driver '71 Swinger. They are building more cars...

Joe (sixinthehead - Asheboro, NC), made his first dragstrip runs in his 5spd 170 '64 V100 - hope to see him again at some events!

LOTS of bench racing since we had the car show at Empire Chrysler 9-noon, then practice runs didn't even start until 5 pm. No rain, though, which was a huge sigh of relief from all.

Dale and Rodney are both going to St. Louis to decide the points champ this year. Ron P and Mike J could still win, IF it's a 50 point race (17 cars or more) and they were to win it.

Lou

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome and like I belonged, despite my obvious lack of driving ability.
Everyone was great; thanks to Charlie S for the advice (and shoe polish), Lou for the encouragement, and Tom for putting up with me in the first round.
Congrats to Nathan for making it to the semis (keep it floored! ), we'll have to get you your own car now!
Of course, Nathan was the only one I beat at the tree, so he has that distinction as well  !
Thanks to all for putting on a great event!
BTW, I wasn't even the slowest car! Eddie's best time was 12.48@55.96, running a stock 170, junk BBD, Dakota 5-spd, and 2.76 open geared 7 1/4. Best 60ft was a tire-spinning 2.87.
The bad news; my best tree was a .514  - ouch!

SITH,
Glad you enjoyed yourself. Now that you have the bug, you can start setting up a car for next season.

I think Norm set a record also. I know he was adding a little weight, to make the class.

Yeah, Norm must have been B/Gas with about a 7.91.

I just got the latest SSRN in the mail, and what do you know, there's Eddie and me mixing it up!
And look! I even got a point! :D
We'll be back... 8)
