Bob Dally and co are headed to Bonneville soon with the 170 LSR (land speed record) Barracuda. I will get there Fri late eve with my friend Neal Hines to help out and bask in the SALT.

Any other Slanters interested in popping in?? Sandy is still thinking about it, I believe. Maybe I will see Guzzi Mark's buddies Gib (Monza) and Bob (Harley) and get to help or hang with them this year too.

See link from last year's event/attempt.

Thanks,

Lou

It's OK to hate me. My wife drives a 2001 Saturn and sometimes a 64 Valiant so I can afford trips like this - she REALLY loves me...

Sounds good, Sandy. Gotta prioritize, and you are making the right choice to fab rather than watch...

Andrew,

Will PM address.

It took me about 12 yrs to get to Bonneville after first really wanting to go. Patience and planning...

I wonder of some of us could mount a Team Slant Bonneville effort someday? If we pool resources and expertise, we could really do some damage, methinks.

Lou

Been working to get to the salt since '90.

I'm in!

Might be a good home for my Titanium rod build...

Salt was sublime this year, and we had good if not perfect results for Bob Dally and the 66 Barracuda.

In short, Bob now holds the F/CPRO record at 132.85 MPH, with 3 runs of 134-136 MPH after that. The car should easily do 140s, but some engine trouble shut us down for this trip. The reason we had 3 runs of 135s is that the dang rev limiter on the MSD box, with dials set to 7100 RPM, was limiting at 6100 - sheesh. Once we fixed that, the next run dropped a cylinder. Doesn't look too bad and will explain later.

STRONG effort by the whole Dally Racing team!!!

I am on my way east in the 68 Dart and will stop and see Mike Jeffrey tomorrow in Lexington, NE.

More to come...

Lou

That's righteous speed for a 66 Barracuda with a 170. You will have to tell me more about it when I see you.

My expectation when I was building the car was about 143 MPH.

Hey Lou, did Bob stay with the 3.55s or did he drop the 3.23s in?

An outfit in Colorado completely rebuilt a different 170 for this year and spent a good many hours tuning it on their dyno. Vic and I installed the motor/tranny combo a month ago. It sounds as though the results were pretty respectable!

I'll see Bob in a few days and bring the Champagne!

I would think a lot of folks would want to hear about this little 170 engine!
