Post subject:  The 2015 "Rookie Rumble"

It looks like there is going to be a serious "Rookie Rumble" at Mason Dixon and Redding next month!

Possible Attendees:

Andrew Shank - 35
Jack Everhardt III - 30
Derek Gordon - 30

Doug Chow - 20

Doug Chow looks like the only Killer Bee that could still be in contention if he wins big at Redding. He has raced at Vegas, Samoa AND Redding this year, so he is a dedicated Rookie.

The other Top 4 Killer Bee Rookies raced at Vegas and MoKan, so likely won't be at Redding.

There are another 4 that raced at either Woodburn or Sacramento that might show up to the last race at Redding, so we can't count out Roy, Olga, Craig or Jeff who have 5 points each.

We have 13 Rookies this year! Great job recruiting Racers!! :D :D

You can drop Derrick Sword off. He was ROY this past year. So the other three are all in a tight race.

Post subject:  Interesting Rule interpretation...

Thanks Rick.

I realize him being East Coast Rookie of the Year twice isn't kosher, but this is interesting...

At the beginning of each year I go through the Rookies from the previous year(s) and count how many events they've participated in to determine if they are eligible for ROY that season...

Derrick only raced at the last Mason-Dixon race last year; Winner and Runner-Up to earn the title. That's just one race weekend.

They way I interpret the rules he would actually be eligible to compete again this year.

Quote:
Rookie of the Year

This award shall go to the Slant 6 points racer that scores the highest number of points during that season and who has not participated in more than one race weekend previous to this season.

I'll take him off the list if that's what y'all want. Just let me know.

Common sense says that someone cannot be "Rookie of the Year" twice. I don't care how one reads the rules. This is one reason we have a judicial system - to interpret laws, both in spirit and in letter. I can't see any judge interpreting this one by the letter, and I don't see a reason to rewrite the rule.

My, possibly heavy handed, 2 cents,

Lou

It really doesn't matter to me.

I just put the guy on the list because he only ran at one event last year.

And just to be clear: He wasn't the ROY, just the runner up.

You're the boss.

Deleting now.

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought he was ROY. We may be able to include him if he only did one event and did not win the prize.

Ok Guys, you are confusing me!

Derrick Sword was the Rookie of the Year last year, not runner up. Or else I gave him someone else's ROY trophy. He and Adam Droschak tied and Derrick had the better win percentage, if my memory serves me correct. You can only win this title one time in my opinion, so I agree with Lou.

Derek Gordon is a new racer this year and is a definite ROY candidate!

Sorry if I confused you Rob if I said the wrong Derrick at the beginning.

OK, now I get it. He was 2nd nation wide, but 1st on the East Coast. I think each Coast has been honoring their ROY for a few years.

OK, if ROY for either coast previously, that counts. I would not allow a second shot at it. Hopefully our collective confusion is improving!

I am trying to talk jack III into racing at Clay City. He says he does not know because of his schedule. Hopefully I can talk him into it. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
