Post subject:  Clay City Reunion Race
To all my slant six friends:
I want to let you know i have to withdraw my entry from the reunion race. My son (little Charles) works with NHRA and over the past several months he became very good friends with Tom “Mongoose” McEwen who passed away June 11th. Charles used to go over to his house and talk nothing but drag racing, and they talked by phone at least once a week. It hit Charles pretty hard hearing of his death that Monday night. He knew he was having health issues and had just talked with him on Friday.

NHRA will be honoring Mongoose at Indy this year and plan to have both of the Hot Wheels haulers there, Don Prudhomme’s car, and the corvette Mongoose won with in 1985. They are doing a simulated race with the cars being pulled down the strip. Because of the close friendship they had, Charles has been asked to pilot the Mongoose funny car. To me, this is a huge honor and privilege, so Jenny & I will be there to witness it.

Since the date of the Clay City race falls on the very next weekend, I won’t be able to make it. I’ll be thinking about you all and hope you understand.

Of course we understand your and little Charles' priorities. Very cool event for Charles! Hope you can join us again sometime...

That is a big honor for Charles Jr.

Now that you have a Slant 6 car again maybe we will see you at another race. :wink:
