Thanks, Rob. Super!

I'll talk to Knoxville tomorrow and (thanks for reminding me) I will mention we can handle our own purse.

Lou

Here is what I have worked out with MoKan, please spread the word.

Friday April 26th, Friday Fun Drags (a.k.a. Test and Tune), $10 per head to enter the track, $15 for a "Test-N-Tune" tech card. 1/8 mile race.
The Slant six group can run open time trials, then organize ourselves into a bracket, and the track will accommodate dials-ins (Left side of car please, no holding up your times on a board). Up to the group to line up in staging lanes correctly.

Saturday, April 27th, Mopar's Invade, $15 per head to enter the track, $20 for a tech card (don't know if they will have tech cards specifically for the Slant Six cars. They may use a "No-Electronics" tech card and have you write "Slant Six" on it). 1/4 mile race.
The Slant Six class will get two time trials and then start eliminations just like the other classes. Still up to the group to figure our own bracket and ensure proper line ups.

MoKan has agreed to provide Plaques for both Friday and Saturday, but no purse.

First round buy backs are allowed in the MoKan classes, but not the Slant Six class. MoKan allows multiple class entry, but not multiple entries per class. This applies to the Saturday event as there are no classes on Friday except ours.

Also, kids 12 and under are free.

I'm not positive where everyone stayed last year, but the nearest Hotel is in Pittsburg KS, not very far from the track. There are also several on the north side of Joplin that are not very far from the track.

I'm still considering maybe a Friday evening meal or gathering after the races.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please speak up.

Update 4-15-24 !!
Bryce Gill contacted me today with the Gill Welding & Fabrication Prize Payout for the Saturday April 27th race. No payouts from Gill Welding for Friday evening.
Winner: FAT Pipe (without Dutras) or Store Credit of $450
Runner Up: $200 Store Credit
Semi Final Winners: $150 Store Credit
2nd round winners: $50 Store Credit

Please give a fist bump and thumbs up to Bryce when you see him around and thank him for supporting /6 enthusiasts.

Other Payouts: I will be adding a little to the Friday payout. If everyone agrees, we could also all add a little and split 70/30 on Friday and Saturday. I think there was mention of some grudge money floating around as well.

The MOKAN weather doesn't look good.
From where I am it's rain for the drive up and back.
I see 40% on Saturday morning and afternoon. Higher Saturday night.
Both Friday and Sunday have higher chances.

Looks like right now, if I see a break with the weather, I will tow Friday afternoon.
Sleep in a rest stop and go to MOKAN Saturday morning.

My weather feed right now shows Friday and Sunday at 98% chance of thunderstorms, and Saturday back up to 76%. Saturday was at 41% last night.

I'm watching Mokan's website. I expect to see it cancelled.

Mark just sent me a picture of a river running through his yard.

I'm staying home.

At this point in time I will give my standard answer of "I have no clue what I'm doing".

IF my knees are healed up and I am back to work, and IF they will let me off, and IF I haven't returned my truck yet, (it goes off lease in April, not getting another truck maybe) MAYBE I'll make it.

Knees healed up-check
Back to work-check
Time off-check
New truck-check
Car ready-check
Weather.......................

The weather out here in the mid section of 'merica has turned pretty bad.
I won't be towing up to MOKAN this weekend.
I hope the track will cancel the event and reschedule it.

Saw on FB that Nitti had the Duster there and made 1 run. No mention of any other Slant cars.

Racers:
The Friday Night TnT at Mokan got rained out. I was already planning to miss Saturday due to a wedding. I heard that Steve was the only Slant there. I also heard the total turnout was thin. I'm sure he missed having some other slants to race with.

This is disappointing because for me, it's two years in a row I've missed my home track Mopar's Invade and that mother nature didn't play well. I have no doubt that at least a few stayed away. I would have.

It's easy to say "there's always next year" until there is no next year. Tracks close, health issues happen, we get old, Mopar Meets stop meeting, Turbo LS heads up racing takes over and then you say "wish they still races those slant sixes like they used to".

Since I missed this one, I am considering adding Clay City and have always had Knoxville on the 2024 schedule.

Rest assured Shawn and I will work to represent the Slants around NE Oklahoma. I'll be competing in regular bracket racing at Mokan throughout the summer.
