I finally gave the 62 Lancer the Firm Feel treatment; 1.06 bars, boxed LCA's, tubular uppers, Bilstein's, swaybar, sub frames and heavy duty strut rods... Now I need it aligned. What are recommended numbers for road racing and maybe occasional street use as well?

170/4 speed with 225 50 15's.

Cheers,
Barnaby

Hi Barnaby,

Sounds dangerous! Bet you're excited. Race tires or street tires, or what kind/brand/model?

For track and street, I would shoot for 1 deg negative camber, +4 to +6 caster and 0 deg toe or a bit (up to 0.1 deg or so) toe in. Some folks will recommend very high caster numbers (+6 to 10 deg), but I do not believe those work well on an A-body tbar suspension. Ehrenberg agrees with me. You could go maybe 1.5-2 deg negative camber, if you are using racing tires, but you will see more wear on the street.

Cheers mate,
Lou

Thanks Lou! I have Proxes RR's, so I will need a second set for the street. I am not concerned about excessive wear, I want this car to handle as well as possible.

OK, sounds good. I would go 1.5 deg neg camber then.

Let me know what you are thinking for track events or AutoXes. I need to plan a trip out to Seattle to drive and/or pick up my 64 Dart. It is ready to rumble and I miss it.

Sounds like this is primarily a race car. To be as fast as possible, you need to set it up for the track you are running. More tracks, means more setups in the notebook. Street, is just another setup.

The numbers you were given are a great starting place for the street. For the track, take tire temps after a few laps and adjust your camber accordingly. You want the temp even as possible across the tread. Be sure to reset toe after each camber adjustment.

Thanks Lou and Tophat, I probably will only drive the car on track days initially for debugging and cost savings. PIR is my local track and I doubt I would take the car to California of Washington.

Cheers,

Lou, that would be so cool! And possibly I could drive one of my cars back east and hit one of your tracks...
I will most likely work sales on the east coast, DC, Virginia, NC, SC and Georgia.

I agree with the 1-2 Neg camber suggestions, big general turn in handling improvement in any application.
What did you do with brake upgrades to have the same relative performance improvement capability?

See my current thread Best Master Cylinder. They are not yet where they should be. Hopefully in a few weeks I can share my resolution.
