Post subject:  raw fuel issues

Hi all. I got the manifold remachined and installed, and it doesn't leak. Now the carp is dumping raw fuel into the engine. Also occaisionally it will flood fuel out of the bowl vent all over the manifold. The needle isn't stuck, and the float height is correct. Please help with ideas. I can't figure out where the extra gas is going

What kind of carb is it? :?

The smallest amount of dirt or any damage to the needle / seat will let fuel past and over flow the carb. You may want to repalce that item.

Make sure the float does not have a leak and is "taking-on" fuel. This also applies to the "foam" style floats, like in a Holley 1920. If there is a break in the hard / smooth outer skin, the inside will soak-up fuel and the float will become heavy.

Aw crud.I posted this right after I got off graveyard. Yes its a good ol 1920.

Funny thing is it didnt do this until I removed it to have the manifold set surfaced! I also discovered a screw that isn't tightening down right- its one thats part of theplate holding the jet.

Another thing- it has a intermittent high pitch whistle that varis with throttle movement. More throttle makes it fade away. I can't find that either.

Its frustrating because its my work car.

Anyway thnks for the quick response.

Post subject:  PCV valve

Check that the PCV valve is getting a strong vacuum.
I recently realized that the manifold to carb gasket for my 1920 was missing a hole to allow the PVC port vacuum. Drilling a hole in the mainfold made a nice improvement to my idle fuel usage and idle speed adjustment.

The PCV is obviously not the reason that the carb is flooding over, so please don't take my suggestion as a repair for that.

Does the float have the spring that holds it up? It seems like an easy piece to miss on reassembly.

Post subject:  float not floating?

have you tested your float for leaks, if its a slight one you may not notice it on inspection, if you have the time pull it and leave it in a glass of water and see if it takes in any. alot of times thought this will dump a little gas when the cars not running.
