 Post subject: P.A.W. 198 rods?
PostPosted: Sun Jun 17, 2001 1:02 pm
I was fliping thru the PAW catalog and saw they had a custom crank and piston kit for the 198. This was a crank, rods, custom pistons (anysize/CR) and rods plus the other crap to put the motor back together for 800something. So I called PAW and asked them if i could just get the rods. He said "umm...umm...ya...umm..i mean no you cant get the rods". He didnt sound so sure. I was wondering if anyone else knows if you can or can not get the rods from them.

casting number I think is 2951260

Good luck

I called them about the 198 rods also, because I knew they are getting harder to come by.When I talked to the gentlemen, he seemed very knowledgable. I double checked with him, that these were for the 198 engines. He said yes and that it was only built from 70-74, so he did have that right. Anyway,I ordered them for$90 and in about 5 days they showed up on my doorstep. I did ask him how often he gets them in and he said on a semi-regular basis? At that time he said he had 15 in stock minus the 6 I took.

Hope that helps answer some of your questions.

I have called PAW several times and they had nothing that was listed in the catalog-and said it would take months to get.

What is the price for a set of 6 198 rods? A while back I advertised on here that I know where there are 2 198's laying around with rods in them. Unfortunately, they are both in junkyards, and the owners say $150-$175 for the whole engine. These are the same morons who wouldn't let me get a super six manifold off a /6 that was buried behind at least 20 other cars in an Aspen because "it was a good engine and might get sold some day". How do you lift the motor out if you have to climb OVER other cars to get to it?

If you need a set of these and the PAW folks will quote you a price and take your order (and your money) why not give it a shot?? The worst that can happen is that they may send you "re-ferbed" 225 rods or just refund your money when they figure-out these are hard to come by.

On the other hand, you could get lucky and get a set of reconditioned 198 rods for no hassel and a reasonable price. These 198 rods are out there, I have found them before at wholesale rebuilders....so pay your money, take your chance.

Be sure your STRESS that these MUST be 198 rods, 7 inch center to center with the correct forging number 2951260

Here is a handy referance table on all the SL6 con rods: - DD

SLANT SIX CONNECTING RODS

Engine -C to C -Grams -Pin Dia. x Width P.Pin, Rod No. / Mopar P/N

170(G) -5.707 -708 -2.187 X 1.015 .900, 1947167 / 1947165

225(RG) -6.700 -750 -2.187 X 1.015 .900, 2205554 / 2406657

198(RG) -7.005 -756 -2.187 X 1.015 .900, 2951260 / 2951262
