Post subject:  Best head gasket?

Racers and experts;

Best head gasket and should I o-ring the block? I've searched previous threads and did not see the exact info.

I am shooting for about 8.75:1 compression for a supercharged motor using the K1/Wiseco package I will have a -20 cc cup machined into the piston top, the 20 cc will include what left of the -8 cc valve reliefs after the machining. I figure it with a zero deck and .040 gasket.

So here's the question; I've seen the Aussie gasket but it is unclear where to order if it is the best. Fel Pro are good and the .022 metal shim with gasket cinch have stood up well to high compression in the past. And I can adjust the -dome volume. I will get 13-14 PSI boost out of the Eaton M112 blower. I can get the block o-ringed if it would be of benefit or necessity.

Good Luck to all the SL6er's at Vegas

Thanks
Jim

I should add Bore= 3.504 and so selection may be effected.

a stock composite gasket with adhesive/sealer to make it stick will work, the steel shim is the best, if you have a good one used or new, just clean it with lacquer thinners before you spray it with sealer. if you are going to try 15lbs of boost you might need o-rings and copper gasket, i haven`t had any luck keeping a stock composite in place with over 7lbs, the steel one has held to 15lbs but i think the head it self failed not the gasket?? i had a 4-53 blower on a 10/1 motor and if i pushed it above 5lbs of boost it ran slower.i don`t know what the limits are on a eaton if spun to fast to achieve higher boost. you could just be over heating the charge just to make boost!

Oring block and a copper gasket has worked for me with up to 25psi. ARP head studs too. The stock bolts allowed the head to walk.

Max sustained RPM for the Eaton is 12,000, so 14,000 for quarter mile blast should be ok mechanically. My drive pulley is 6.38" and the blower is pulley 3.15" these can be changed easily.

I know there are a few companies that custom cut copper gaskets, I'll look in to that and o-ring the block. Next choice I guess would be the .022" steel gasket. Does anyone know the bore diameter of the steel gasket?

Thanks Jim

Didn't the guys in Columbus Ohio have the copper ones?

Rug Trucker

You see me only a 2bbl (new guy) so I have to ask. Who are the "guys in Columbus Ohio"??

If someone is familiar with this or has them on the self it would be much better than sending someone a gasket that cuts 100's of Hemi and BBC gaskets a month, but rarely does a Slant.

I'm thinking this is the way I'll go, copper and 0-ring. I'm only going to push 12-15 PSI but better done right the first time and they are reusable.

Cox brothers are from Columbus, is that who you were thinking of??

Thanks Jim

Yes, that is who he is talking about. Cox Bros. Not sure if they are still in business.

Post subject:  copper gasket

I have a copper gasket on my race engine which I bought from Jim Cox. My motor is around 12 to 13 to 1 compression running on alcohol. No problems with the gasket and it has been on the car for about three years.

I have the Cox Bros copper gasket, also. Pretty sure they were/are made by SCE. The SCE gasket is $99.
I have been in contact with a compant called "Hussey Performance". They do not have a slant six gasket, but said they can make one if I send a stock gasket. Their pricing was better then SCE. I was going to ask about a quantity discount. They can make with any bore size and thickness from .024 to .150

charlie i am looking for a copper gasket for a 3.480 bore, i have to build a fresh head or take the high comp motor apart and use that head. so if you a working hussey performance i will be interested, if not i was going to call jim cox in a few weeks.

Post subject:  Quanity deal

Charlie;

If Hussey Performance can help us out I will be in for one, make sure they all don't have to be the same. Mine will be 3.504 bore dia. (still waiting to hear from Brian on the possible new Wiseco deal)

The optional thickness's sheds some new light, if I can add some deck height with the gasket I won't need to take as much off the top of the piston.
The 20 cc out of the dome is about .180" I think that would leave about .210 in the piston roof. Acceptable, but thicker is better.

Count me for one if not I'll look up SCE.

Thanks Jim

Can you use these copper gaskets without O-ringing. Seems as if I where to start pinging with a smaller cam selection I could just slap in a thicker gasket to reduce compression.

if you use spray sealer/ adhesive on the gasket ,same a mopar uses on the neon gasket to fix oil leaks, that should work.
