Was it me I'd run the oil out of the engine's oil pump thru a thermostatic valve and then a cooler. Would be a good opportunity to move the oil filter so it doesn't auto-lube the idler arm during filter changes.

I find it easiest for me to use an external hosting site to post pics from. After trying a couple of the free ones (including the now infamous photobucket) I now use smugmug, which is a fee site. Copy the image's URL from however the hosting site presents it and then paste it in the middle of this: [ img] [/img] that you get by clicking the "IMG" button above.

I use one as a diff cooler pump, I would think it would not be very effective for larger cooling purposes such as an engine, considering the cost.

It does talk about GPM being viscosity dependent. Never used one, no idea how it would behave with engine oil. Frankly, it seems like the wrong way to go about cooling the engine oil. I'd recommend using the t-stat I linked above and using the engine's oil pump to full-flow the oil thru the cooler system so that the turbo and the bearings get cooled oil directly, but I figured the OP had a reason for not wanting to do it that way.

$245,00 holly camoley.. l payed 75.00 for the Briggs starter one. Like i said e bay special.. lol... l accualy think useing the engine oil pump to circulate the oil to a cooler is a great idea.. useing the cool oil to feed bearings ect. Nothing would be better for the engines internals.
I went with a external pump because l didnt feel comfortable with the idea of main oil psi out side of the engine. A person could use arrowquip hoses rather than sreel lines, but the cooler is a nice place for raccoons and other wildlife to plan a suicide mition. If something would ever happen, l wanted to be able to shut the cooling system down, and continue on my way with no worries.

Tilton isn't necessarily your lowest cost option. LOL

There are plenty of plumbing options that are robust enough for engine oil that won't break the bank. My own choice, even over the fancy braided SS hose, is the Push-Lok/Barb-tite hose & fittings design.

Ever seen how the oil filter was handled on some (all?) of the RHD slants way south of the Equator? I keep thinking that I need to buy an iron oil pump to see about making those same mods so a remote filter pad and oil cooler system would be relatively easy to plumb.

Yes. with diff oil lubricant, it is rather sluggish especially when cold. I also use it for extra directed lubrication onto to pinion/ring interface. They spec 1-2 gpm, not exactly robust, compared with a typical water pump ( which is a fantastic coolant) of 25-50gpm. I think the claim of "viscosity dependent" really means, the pump has no muscle.
As much as I like the concept of a separate oil cooling system, the Tilton is not much of a solution in this regard, IMO.
A significant hurdle in finding a suitable pump, is operating temp range.

The problem isn't designing a pump that will move whatever viscosity oil. The problem is building a constant duty 12 VDC electric motor with enough power to turn the pump while also not pulling 1000 amps.

If you really want a separate oil cooling system you need a multi-stage engine driven oil pump. One or more scavenge stages feeding the oil cooler and one pressure stage feeding the bearings etc. This doesn't have to be a dry sump pump, but frequently is. Figure that such a system will run roughly 10 times the cost of that Tilton pump.

ACVW engines fitted to an automatic trans used stacked spur-gear oil pumps. One moved engine oil, the outer one supplied the trans with pressurized ATF. Not uncommon in the old days to see those used in a simple, low buck two stage dry sump system. Maybe if someone could talk Titan Speed Engineering into making a two stage gerotor Slant oil pump?
