on my Super Six upgrade on 1 '75 Dart, I found that the existing PCV valve was letting so much air pass at idle that the engine was running too lean to idle... capping off the PCV inlet the the carburetor was the only way to make it idle, no matter what the mixture settings. I'm going to buy a new PCV valve and grommet, as I figure the old one is defective. Is there a particular brand and model of PCV valve that is best for carefully metering and minimizing the volume for the corresponding vacuum (maybe with a strong internal spring) that will not adversely affect the vacuum at idle?

I would just get a replacement part, whatever is listed for your vehicle. The Super 6 doesn't take any special PCV valve (at least they were all the same on my 79 Volare wagon).
