I have a 225 1983 in a d150 truck .
I am confused as the manual says to use 6 quarts of oil and according to my dipstick it is showing it at being about a quart over
Could it be I have the wrong dipstick , or could it be that my engine only actually does take 5 quarts ?
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks Steve

Run it like the dipstick and see if things seem better or worse.

Ive had motors that loved to be a quart low.

Most hate to be over full.

My 83 D150 takes 6 quarts with a tall filter,
It seems that someone swapped in a non
truck dipstick into your D150,
If you want I will get a photo and measurements
of my D150 dipstick tomorrow and post here.

Thanks, John. I have only done one oil change on my 84 D-100, but I think it was only 5 qts with filter, to full mark on dipstick. I will double check.

I'm pretty sure they came both ways. Why, I don't know. Denny's 84 holds 5 I think.

For some of the D series truck run there was both a
D100 and a D150,,,
Maybe the 100 series was a lighter duty variant.

My '82 D150 slant takes 6 qts. with a filter change. That's also what is listed in the '82 owners and service manuals. Unlike every other vehicle I have owned, the prescribed amount of oil comes in right at the full mark on the dipstick. Rather than overfilled. It seems like '81 through '83 D150's are all equipped the same. Not sure when Chrysler resurrected the D100 label again, but it might have been as early as '84 with Mexico production. The light trucks were all labeled D150's for a spell.
