Car Model: 1962 valiant signet
hey everyone,
Got this car from a buddy. (1962 valiant 2 door been sitting a long time and owner had passed away).
It has the cast iron 170 slant 6 odometer 38k miles and the wear on the motor was pretty minimum, besides sitting in one place for so long(10,20 years sitting and would not crank)
#1 completely dismantled the motor labeled and cleaning inspecting everything.
block cleaned and honed new expansion plugs. Then starting on the lower end with all new bearings. After some cleaning crank and cam look perfect, using originals.
waiting on cam bearing tool, installed crankshaft main bearings and rear seal using plastiguage (asssuming .001 is the aim..)method.
ill post some pictures no troubles yet but im sure questions soon.

i have a valiant manual that covers alot but not specifics on rebuilding the motor any one have info on a chrysler 170 repair manual??
thinking of using the original lifters, does any one know if the hydrolic 225 upgrade fits this block ??

Free Download service manuals here. http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109 Use the 1965 manual for your engine.

Only use used lifters on the same cam/lobe they came from.
You should be able to use the hydraulic cam setup on the 170. You will need the hydro cam, hydro lifters, hydro rockers, and shaft. the rear rocker shaft mounting bolt my need to be changed, or the hole in the shaft modified (don't remember). You will need custom pushrods, as the 225 PR's are too long, and the 170 never had a hydro setup.

the body is pretty good needs paint and floor pans but most chrome trim is still there and in good shape
1 dent on the hoodside and thats about it.
