Not sure about the answer to your question. Doc may know. The only change to this engine for the test was the new cam and lifter and the oil pump / gear Doc sent me.

Ok, I found another good used gear off a well seasoned engine. Pushed off the 14T and installed the 13T. Sat the housing to gear gap the same as the original. Will install later this morning and test run till hot.

Ran engine until temperature was at 180 degrees. Then ran another 15- 20 minutes just to be sure oil was up to temp. Infared gun on the pan show @ 155 degrees. Oil pressure readings were as follows with the stock 13T gear on the same Pump Doug sent me.

650-----12#
750-----15
850-----19
1000----23
1200----29
1600----38
2000----46
2500+--48

It looks like not a whole lot of difference in pressure. About the same at low rpm and a couple pounds higher through the middle of the range.

Also I forgot to mention that the whine is still there so it was not the new 14t pump gear.

That is good info.
Hopefully you can run the 13T gear for an hour or so, then see if it shows any wear.

I have run it for probably 40 minutes. I will heat up the engine one more time and get over an hour on the 13T for you and then I'll install my good pump.

I ran the engine again until good and warmed up and then removed the Doug's pump with the stock gear. Total time on the pump / gear (13T) was about an 1hr and 15 minutes.

Pulled he pump and the gear looked pretty good to me. Very minimal wear that I could see. I will post pictures later today.

I installed my old "Dutra" spray tube modified oil pump with a good used gear and started it up. I have been running it for about 2 hours now. I decided that maybe since the gear on the cam may have sustained some wear, I would run the engine at @ 800 rpm for a couple hours to let the two gears wear gently together. I have no idea if that is a good idea or not? But, I figured it would be better than loading the gears heavily right off the bat. I am heading out to take it for a road trip and them I may stick in the 3.55's. They just feel so much more "peppy" !! :D :D

More to follow.

Here is the pictures of my gear on Doug's pump which I ran for about 1 hour 15 minutes. The gear looked pretty good to me. It is very hard to get a good picture of a gear like that. The original old wear pattern is obviously easy to see after 120,000 miles. The wear pattern from that last two days comes across the center of the gear and is just a little more shiny. It actually looks kind of bad in the picture but not in real life. :D

My new pump was installed and everything is working good.

good write up Rick, so the noise must be from the chain tensioner added?

Very true John! :D :D

My assumption is that it is the guide. although I am not sure. I disconnected the belts to eliminate them.
