I have a 1983 d150 / 6. Previous owner took all emissions off truck. The leanburg unit broke off the air cleaner it is laying by the firewall. Wires are still connected so I am assuming the lean burn unit is still working? My truck is running extremely rich, I have to clean carbon up plugs every 100 miles. I am going to do the conversion. What I am asking could the conversion help with this ,it is hard to adjust timing or carb because of the miss in the motor any insight would be greatly appreciated thank you

The simplest and best way to remove the lean burn system is to follow the instructions in the HEI ignition conversion article. However, it is even easier to convert a vehicl that was originally equipped with lean burn since you already do not have a ballast resistor.

Get all the parts mentioned in the article. Wire the distibutor leads as discussed in the article. For the + and - leads for the HEI module, tap into the + and - leads at the coil. Then mount the HEI module with theback of the unit well grounded. Thats it.
