Just got home from CC. Car ran good off the trailer and got faster all day. Unfortunately I didn't do well dialing after the oil down and lost a double breakout in the 3rd round.

I was amazed at how many people outside the Slant gang knew the car. Lots of pictures taken of it and lots of stories about it and Mike.

Even had a blonde hillbilly chick taking pictures of me with the car because I had my matching shirt on. It was a hoot.

Pulled the carb off when we got back from Clay City and brought it home intending to put a kit in it. Car ran fine but I think the 60' is off. Took the front float bowl off and it is clean as can be inside, but the power valve appeared to be leaking. Changed that and also changed the primary pump squirter. Planning on going to 41 Saturday night to test. Hoping to get to Coles County the 6th and 7th of next month to do a little 1/8th mile racing. Haven't been there for years.

I am having fun with the car. It seems to have rejuvenated my desire to race.

Vacation time approved for the Coles County weekend.

Had the day off so I went to the shop and put the carb back on and adjusted the floats. I also took the time to physically check the TDC pointer on the motor. As I suspected I have an early damper and a late model cover. Made some new marks and put the timing light on it. Had around 42° total, so I backed it off to 34. Hoping it picks up a little MPH now.

Finally put a chip in the 2 step and tried the transbrake. Goes to 3000 easily, will try to get it up to 3600 tomorrow night.

Thanks Seymour! He gets back from vacation Monday. I'll give him a call.

Still footbraking tonight. Something is wrong with my 2 step. It was activating with no buttons pushed at all. Found that just before my first time run. Pulled the chips and it went off.

Only other change I made was instead of BP or Sunoco 93 with ethanol, I found 91 at Casey's in Milford yesterday with no ethanol in it. Not sure how much of a change it made.

Bottom line is I changed power valve and primary squirter in the carb, set the timing back 8 degrees, changed fuel, and got great air tonight and picked up .9 and 8 mph. My 60' tonight was 1.91. Right where I thought it should be. At CC my best one was 2.06.

My next time out is 2 weeks at Coles County for some 1/8th mile. I needed to run 8.99 or quicker to make it in Pro. I was running 8:50's tonight.

I also started removing sponsor stickers from the car. I saw a thread on Yellowbullet about removing stickers and lots of guys recommended a 3M Stripe Remover wheel. I ordered one and it is sweet! It takes the stickers off and doesn't hurt the paint underneath UNLESS you spin it too fast. Then it will heat up the paint and pop little flecks off. The paint underneath is not "shadowed" either.

The BHD lettering stays though.

Very cool to hear these reports Dennis! I'm glad you're fired up about Slant 6 racing again. :D

I am kinda frightened though. What I did should not have changed the car that much. I must have just caught lightning in a bottle.
