 Post subject: Hydraulic clutch kit?

Ryan and I both are likely going to be installing a hydraulic clutch kit in our cars. I had a couple question first.

1) Mine is obviously going into my race car and I was just wondering if there was anything to watch out for?
Does the hydraulic work fine for fast shifting? ....etc
2) I would like to get a complete kit and was wondering if you all had any experience with anyone specific.

I know Lou has a Mcleod, but don't know if that is with a 833 or a T-5? maybe it doesn't matter. Anyway I see American powertrain has a kit. Any others I should look at?

I have the McLeod TOB with a Wilwood master cyl. It is so much nicer than mechanical, and no lag issues at all. Less effort because the geometry (I used input-shaft-concentric version) is perfect. Mine is on T5 with McLeod 9" hipo cover.

NOTE, that you need to be careful about MC mounting for good geometry. I think Am Pwrtrn and others have solved the geometry problem, with a little help from Mark Charapich (and no credit given to him) back in the day. My solution is different but works very well. No hiccups in 17 yrs of usage. It was a bear to bleed under the car. I should have bench bled the slave cylinder.

might be a possibility here if it could be found.... I have never seen, but heard that in 86-87 there was a hyd clutch setup available from the factory with the /6 and 833OD combo....

Yes and that set up is junk. Ask me how I know. Master cylinder is held only by plastic ears. Definitely not hi performance.

ok, didn't know you knew about that setup, just thought Id throw that out there.... like I'd said, I cant ever remember actually SEEING one, just remember HEARING about the fact that they made some.....

Sorry Volaredon! I didn't mean to sound harsh! :D :D I was in a hurry to leave from my lunch break when I typed it. :D :D My sons truck has that set up and the little plastic ears just kind of wear / brake off. Probably Ok for a truck as a driver though.

Your link to Brewers is where I saw them. I still don't see any link to the clutch pedal. Or if that needs to be fabricated yourself.

OK, will write/pic something up here at some point... Basically, I drilled a hole in the stock clutch pedal and used a little Heim joint threaded onto the Wilwood MC shaft, with an extension coupler nut. If you pick the right point on the clutch pedal, the geometry is perfect and its easy to build. The bolt in kits have the MC at an angle with some linkage to the stock clutch pivot pin on the pedal.

not a problem at all, I didnt take it that way.... frustration and experience with a given part/system can make people that way too....
I don't know what you know, unless one of us says something.....
and they probably didnt expect someone to be asking about fixing something, 33 years after that truck was built in 87 either...... I'm sure that the factory figured everything that old would be long gone by now. they figure "everyone" would be in a "current new vehicle" by now.
