Newest video from UTG involving Plan Z and manifold heat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghJv7yAuYEY

Thoughts/comments from my fellow drag racers?

I watched it.
I think he is trying to talk himself into it.

Now he has put a lot of gas into the engine as he says, and that might be a factor.

Has anyone ever gotten a timeslip out of UT? I could go on and on about why he might be having the problem(s) he is having, but manifold heat (unless he is running the car at 40 F ambient temp or lower) would not be near the top of my list.

Lots of talking and thinking and not much in the way of results, is what I see. One can speculate, and one can do real experiments. There is often a huge gulf between the two, depending on the person. You can be smart or clever or talk a good game, but without the experiments you have nothing but ideas and speculation (which might be good, or might be entirely hot air ;)).

Lou

Yes I have one.

Will dig it up and see if I can Share.
:D :D :D :D :) :) :)

No Manifold heat needed - Maybe on a Carb'd hyperpak intake, but surely nothing else for drag racing.

I think too much time can be spent watching videos instead of building and doing stuff.

I am guilty too.. But sheesh get out there and get the data, not clicks and likes.

X2 Lou! I have never run carb heat on anything. Race car with Clifford intake. Race car with Webers and Street truck with 4 barrel on Weiand manifold. Hope he gets it sorted out. But carb heat is doubtful to be at the top of the list. Anyone ever stick your hand between your header and the intake? Lots of heat going on there.

Holley carb????

UTG makes a living with videos so he has to have content.
I think he was 10.3 at The Slanted Nationals.
The last video had him at, i think, 9.7.
All are 1/8 mile times.

Uncle Toolbag. Only good thing he's done is make Greg a rockstar.

I never even ran manifold heat on my red car that I drove year round.

You're being more diplomatic than he deserves.

Well, not bad. Just slightly faster than my 3500# truck. :D :D

Yeah, 10.3 in the 1/8 from a supposedly 12.20 1/4 car.

I had some chick on FB telling me I was full of crap because he'd never run it yet. I told her I was there and saw it with my own eyes.

9.7 in the eighth mile is still not so great in my opinion for A car that has so many holes in it.

My heavy stockish ~3400# 1969 Dart went 9.44 in the eighth mile.

I will see if I can dig up that timeslip at the garage today. :-)

Not defending him, but it's not so hard to make a slant go slow

And remember his Dart was an exercise in cheap, spending as little as possible to go as fast as possible.
To that end I feel he has been successful.

It will be interesting to see how the heated manifold picks up his performance.
And how he heats it.
Maybe the nitrous trick of a propane torch.

I don't know, but does he have an O2 sensor to know where he is at?

A dripomatic Holley carb and a propane torch, are probably not good together. :D :D

I really would like to see him get it running well.

The first weekend out with my 66 Valiant was going 13.9's in the 1/4. Car cost me $1500 to build, including buying the car. 225 motor at that time.
Mason dixon 2012 225 motor only no power adder, was running 14.6. I think Tony needs to spend more time working and less time on video.
