I need to order C clips for Andrew Shanks W-100 with the 9 1/4" rear. On Summit they show 2 different thickness. Is there any way to tell what I have before taking them out? One is .175 thick the other is .205 thick. Also at 11.00 & $15.80 each it is a huge rip off! I may need to check with Chrysler, they may be cheaper there!

Thanks

That might seem high... but remember what they do. That is one critical part.

Good axle seals can be $8-$9. Just for some perspective.

Or you can go to junkyard and pull some for 5 nickels and try to talk the guy down to 2 nickels...

:D

Yep it is perspective. But Dorman has many different ones for $4-$5. Probably just about the same thing as I am looking for that costs $15 plus $6 shipping.

The thicker ones are probably for axles with the groove worn to save buying new axles.

Yes you may be right. I think I will buy them both and have them on hand when I pull the axles.

If the rear is not apart, what makes you need new "C" clips?

Not 100% sure Charlie, but Andrew's truck has a clunk when weight shifts side to side and I thought it may be wear on the Clips since that is all that is holding the axles in. I have not got it in my garage yet to look closely at it. May be that it is something else so I'll look closer before ordering.

In all honesty, I have never seen the clips themselves wear. The groove widens in the axles. If it is in fact what is making the clunk, it's really axle time.

Ok I'll just need to do a little more investigation! Thanks

Definitely a time to disassemble before ordering. On a side note, the bearing adjusters on a 9-1/4" can be a real PITA to get back in and adjust without the tool. You can make one with a little ingenuity, or be lazy like me and order one off E-Bay for $45.

Thanks for that video! That may well be the problem.
