3rd time I've had to replace this boot in 3-4 years over the original B&T joint on the driveshaft my 63 Dart. Something's not right...what would cause this boot to tear so prematurely?

Andy Bernbaum sold me one about 4~ish years ago, then did a make good on another a year+ later, now another year & 1/2 later, torn away again.

How many miles on each one? I wonder if the old stock of them is just getting crusty? I doubt anyone is making them anymore. I wonder if some crossover from a newer CV joint application might be found? When I ran those, I just wrapped hefty trash bag around it and zip tied it on there and that lasted a few 1000 miles at least. You can convert the driveshaft to a truck slip-joint and standard U-joint type if you get the adapter flange.

I'm sure others will chime in here....

Lou

What grease are you using? Certain kinds can attach particular rubbers. Try SuperLube.

I took measurements and went to part store. Iirc, I took Opel Omega inner boot, but can't be sure anymore. It was years ago...

It's a sign from Jesus Chrysler that good-quality parts for the ball & trunnion aren't available any more, so you should do this and be done with it once and frall.

The retrofit dan lists is a good alternative.. I brought a 64 dart with the flanged output 3 speed (oe) and it also has this style of driveshaft on it. No problems with it.

Btw, my car has a denny's driveshaft.

Yeah the drive shaft Denny's made for the 64 Dart I had works great. The flange and universal joint made it easy to mount did away with the old ball and trunion style driveshaft. No vibrations.

Part number issue: Dana Spicer and several of the suppliers list a 2-3-8001KX slip yoke, but I can't find a 2-3-800KX.
Typo? Part number change? Or did my not-so-great eyes miss it?

Spicer Catalog Page 5, and Index pg 25.

Edit: Fixed the link.

Yup, it's a typo (missing that "1").

The 2-3-8001KX is specced out here. The 2-40-1711 spline is here, and as you can see it's a dimensional match (1.375" × 16 spline).
