Car Model: 1984 dodge D150 slant6 single cab long be step-sid
Howdy all! :D So I have a 1984 2wd dodge d150 single cab longbed stepstide, with a slant 6. A few years ago I removed the independent suspension due to damage and put in a Dana 44. What I’m wanting to know is if there is a transfer case that fits my 4 speed A833 tranny and if not, what manual transmission will fit the slant 6 engine that will take a transfer case with little to no modifications so I can turn my truck into a 4wd Because I’m moving to a snowy state soon. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The A833/A833OD was never offered in a 4x4. You could use one with a divorced transfer case as with the 1971 and older trucks, but it would be far easier to find and mount the NP435 transmission and transfer case. The NP435 was offered in 2WD trucks so even if you can't find a slant six 4x4 you can get a trans and transfer case from a V8 truck and swap the bellhousing.

Are you sure you have the A833OD? I would have expected a D150 to have the NP435 top-loader.

Just to specify you can get the transmission and transfer case from the V-8 truck,
you will need the bellhousing, flywheel and starter from a slant six truck...as they are
all unique to this powertrain combination on a slant.

I also would expect the 80's D-150 to have the low mount starter 143 tooth flywheel
and NP-235/435 combination....

Would the 84 d-100 and the d-150 have the same or different drivetrain? My 84 d-100 has a 225 slant, and a A833OD trans. I think it is original to the truck. However it does have a 8 3/4 rear, which I don't think is original.

Thank you for the responses! Okay so just to clarify:
1- I need to get the NP435 and transfer case from a v8 (can y’all clarify what year and model dodges they are in?)

2- can I keep my original clutch&clutch fork assembly, flywheel and bell housing that I have now? Or do I need different stuff?

3- to answer yalls questions, yes it has from stock the A833OD and also it has a high mount starter.

I don’t have a lot of knowledge on this and I want to make this as easy as possible so I’d like to know Everything I would need and where or what to get it from. Thanks again for all the help!

1. No. You don't need a trans and transfer case from a V8 truck, but it will likely be easier to find. Ideally you'd find a /6 truck so that you can get everything between the engine and the axles including drive shafts, shifters, mounts, etc. This may not be economically feasible unless you find a cheap parts truck.

2. No. Everything as indicated above includes the /6 specific 130 or 143-tooth flywheel, clutch, release mechanism, bellhousing, etc as None of the 122-tooth A833OD stuff interchanges.

The D150's have a lot higher GVW than the D100s and the A833OD is pretty light duty which informed my assumption. I wonder if the D100 in question has one of the rare late bellhousings that use a larger clutch? I think the 8 3/4 was done by 1974.

Do you know what years the /6 had the NP435? Because I’m going to go check the local salvage yard

From your field reports it appears that the A833OD availability expanded in later years.
