How necessary is the trans support brace? Obviously they put it there for a reason but is it really that effective? I have a slant six in a roadster and that brace is preventing me from putting the steering box in a better place. I'm thinking about removing the bracket completely or maybe cutting some access/clearance holes in it.

I did see a past post from 2008 that Doug Dutra commented saying he always runs the braces but wanted to find someone that could cut holes in it to make it lighter and look neater.

I don't have one on my car. 2800# leaving between 3600 and 4000 on a transbrake. Haven't broke the case.....................yet. :mrgreen:

I would run a Brace of some kind - Even if it's holey or cut and modified somehow.

I run a Holey one on Ruster and for some header applications they need to be trimmed a bit.

Is this an auto car or manual transmission?

I have seen one broken case that was probably related to no brace. It was on Dennis' car before he bought it! 400 HP Slant 6 drag car launching hard.

I always run them, but it is probably fine for most apps not to.

I play both sides! I always run one, but cut about 50% of it away.

This is an automatic car, weighs probably around 1500 lbs and is stock 225 with a 2 barrel carb and intake. I think i found a way to keep the brace in place and may not even need to modify it. Glad to hear some modification is possible. This will be a street driven hot rod but also raced on dirt tracks and run at the drag strip. Eventually I'd like to make some internal engine improvements when i do a rebuild so I will focus on keeping the brace there.

There are 2 braces, not sure what is the application difference.
One is much smaller than the other.

The one that came from my "64 /6 and 727 combo seems beefier yet having been used with the /6 to v8 727 adapter plate

That would make sense as the rear bolt pattern would be different with that adapter plate in place.
