 Post subject: K-member alignment?
PostPosted: Sat Mar 23, 2002 9:24 am
I finally got my car back together and the engine doesn't seem to be straight. The tail seems to be off to the passenger side. The bell housing almost touches the lip inside the tunnel.
It occured to me that I might not have gotten the k-member in straight. It looked like it aligned itself, the bolt seemed to fit the holes tight! Also, I didn't remove the torsion bars from the rear mounts and just pulled the lower control arm studs out of the holes as I pulled the k-member forward. It all seemed to go back together just fine.
Do I just need to unbolt the trans support and pull it toward the driverside a little? Do you just "eyeball it"?

Mike,

Is it possible you didn't use the same motor mounts (metal parts on the engine) that came off your '65. There may be a small difference between the later A-body passenger side mount and your early A mount. I know the driver's side mounts are different. However, if the rear trans mount bolts up, then you're probably OK. They never put that big OD bellhousing in the early A's, so that may be part of the closeness you see.

Also, I'm in town until Friday morning. Give me a call.

Cheers,

Lou
