Found this cam on E-bay. Think it'd make a good turbo/blower motor bumpstick with that short overlap. Would like your opinion.

Item number.... 1818138576

Sorry, still haven't got the link thing figured out.

The link is as easy as a "copy - paste" into the Optional Link URL box below and name it with a title, You can also simple cut and paste the address right into the message like this:
<A HREF="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1818138576&r=0&t=0">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1818138576&r=0&t=0</A>

Anyway, that MP cam is pretty aggressive, has a 76 degree overlap and .528 lift, also note the loose lash settings. I would say it is too much for a turbo set-up.

Hey Roger,

I 'think' this is the same cam that I was running in my dragster...oil pump/dist gear has some broken teeth. If you want the cam to play with/measure on, let me know and you can have it.

I did not measure the cam, but the previous owner said the cam was the MP 284 .528 cam.

regards,
mark

How did the cam run before the O.P. gear stripped?
What was the RPM "sweet spot"?

DOH !! Some of the simplest things trip me up at times. I've been trying to cut/paste into the text box and keep overlooking the link box.

Sheeesh! I musta been really tired to think it would have been ok for a pressure motor.......I gotta stop this 3rd shift stuff and find me a day job. Thanks for the advise, Doug

Hi Doc,

Best time of 12.06 @ 111. 1.9 60 ft times. In a 1550 lb dragster (with driver), 4000+ stall powerglide, 4.56 gears 10.5x30 tires. 390 Holley vac sec on Offy, 8.5ish compression. MP ported head (1.7/1.44).

I wouldn't call the idle 'lumpy', but I let it idle around 900 to 1000 rpm. It would have probably idled down to around 750 and might have sounded lumpy then. I did not notice a real sweet spot, but then I was probably 'on the cam' before the converter stalled also. It seemed to pull good to my 6,000 rpm shift point.

I felt the car should be much faster than it was, but the compression was a lot lower than I had been told, and I never really got around to tuning it much before the oil pump gear stripped.

I'm having a new engine built now at J&M, this will use the same head but have around 12.5 compression with a quench style piston similar to your previous effort. I'm hoping for low 11s/high 10s.

I hope this answers most of your questions.
regards,
mark

Would a cam like that work in my van rebuild?
Just curious, it's got an auto in it - but I am thinking of putting the built motor in my 108 van now and it's got a 3 on the tree.
Anyway,
Thanks for any responses,
Talk at ya later,
Dan
