I will soon be turbocharging my slant six and there are a few parts of the engine I'll need to upgrade. One is the fuel pump - I've heard stockers don't flow all that well and some cars seem to run out in the 16 second range. Fuel starvation with a turbo is likely to be bad.

So, I'm looking for a way to get more fuel flow. There's a catch, though - this is a blow through turbo and must be compensated for boost. I know this can be done with most mechanical fuel pumps. Can it be done to electric pumps too somehow, or is there some way I could put in a regulator that does this? What about the 440 fuel pump swap? I've heard someone around here knows how to put big block fuel pumps on a slant six.

Mopar Performance PN# P5007546 is a nice chrome fuel pump block-off plate w/ the Mopar logo. It will fit the /6.

I'd suggest upsizing to 3/8" fuel line, minimum.

Lot of nice electric pumps to choose from. I'm using a Carter P4070. We're not going turbo, so you may want to look at the P4600 HP, 100 gph, 7 psi. It uses the external regulator.

Looking in the 'ol Summit catalog. Don't see your regulator right now. Give'em a call, they should be able to fix you up.

BTW, block-off plate around $20, pump $70. There is also a Carter P4601HP @ 15 psi 100 gph if you really need more "stuff".

OK, A regulator Vortech 6X100-001. X-pensive @ $290! I'd check with Barry Grant fuel systems. They may be able to help, too.

To use a big block pump you need to change the pump lever. On a stock pump they are crimped in, but on my High Volume Carter, the lever has a bolt in retainer which makes the job easy. Andrew Wagner posted the plans one time for modifying a Holley regulator for boost.

Here is a look at a High Volume Carter pump with the arm swapped to the SL6 type.
I used some shims between the arm and the plunger rod "head" to be sure the unit got full stroke.
Other changes included the vent fitting (threaded brass fitting added) and I turned the inlet / outlet bowl to get better access to the lines.
Inside the pump is a .020 pressure bleed-off hole drilled between the high and low pressure side, this bleeds off the head pressure when the engine / pump stops. All the internal passages were drilled oversize and deburred so this pump will move more fuel then a SL6 can use.

I use a stock fuel pump that is boost referenced. I also have a holley blue pump (14 psi) that I turn on when I get to 2nd gear, otherwise I don't need the pump on. I am still fooling around the holley reg. I did get my car running and drivable. It still needs work. I will start to tune it next week to get ready for the mason dixson dragway's mopar show,I will be there sunday. Let me know if anyone else will be there.

I'll be ordering a Carter mechanical fuel pump from Summit soon, along with some gauges and a couple other necessary parts. I'll check if they have an adjustable /6 vacuum advance too. Anyway, there's one remaining question - there have been a lot of references to a Carter slant six fuel pump. Is this some aftermarket piece, or did Carter just make the original fuel pumps? Or did they build them some years and another supplier make them other years?

Both Holley and Carter made "OEM" fuel pumps for the SL6.
The Carter pump is rebuildable, it is assembled with a screw-on bowl & valve plate. With the right "tricks" and a rebuild kit, the stock Carter SL6 fuel pump can be made to flow pretty good.
