Please pardon my late and less than stellar race reporting...

Two races are complete with the Ron Hamby Memorial Race at Wilkesboro, NC coming up the weekend of 18-19 June.

As usual, Mopars Invade MoKan was the race that kicked off the season on 18 April. The rain forecast kept many away and delayed the race from Saturday to Sunday, but three brave souls started us off for the 2021 season.

Rusty Heisten won the 2 round event, with 2020 Champion Jeff Kendall runner-up. Team Green leader Mark Goodman banged gears in his 4 speed 66 Dart wagon to, what he called, end his Slant 6 racing career.
Mark sold the Lancer that is reported to be getting a 3rd Gen Hemi.

The second race of the season was at Mason-Dixon Dragway in Boonsboro, MD hosted by the Covalt Clan patriarch, Rick Covalt.

There were 7 cars on Saturday and 10 on Sunday with 2 Rookies!! Mandi Gravatt and Vassi Calimer joined the Slanted Family. Welcome to the Slanted Sickness!!

Brian Droschak won on Saturday with Phil Stoneback runner-up.

Sunday winner was Ken Anderson with Rick Covalt runner-up.

So, Ken Anderson is in the points lead with a 4 way tie for second between Rick Covalt, Brian Droschak, Andrew Shank, and Phil Stoneback.

Mandi Gravatt is leading as Rookie of the Year with 20 points and 1 win under her belt.

Here are the points leading into the Ron Hamby Memorial race at Wilkesboro, NC:

My apologies to Greg Ondayko. I forgot to add him to the "points" list I sent Rob above. I went off the ladder and since Greg broke before that he wasn't on there. Rob will add his attendance points soon.

Rick

The AHRA Slanted Nationals at Jeffers Motorsports Park in Sikeston, MO was a success!! :D

Seven racers took to the super sticky track 5 September. It was a great day of racing and the start of a great relationship with the American Hot Rod Association!

We had two new racers at this event. Shane Pulido, who works for Edlebrock and daily drives a 69 Dodge Dart 4 door and Charles Hendricks driving a beautiful 64 Dart.

We also had two record-setters impressing the crowd. Ryan Peterson brought his turbocharged 66 Valiant all the way from North Dakota and clicked off a 7.50 in his quest to take the C/Unlimited 1/8 mile record from Lou Madsen. 2020 National Champion Jeff Kendall brought his SDRA rail to reset his own AA/Gas record to 6.51. (Records aren't official until racers send their timeslips to Seymour for approval)

Greg Ondayko won the three round event and climbed to the #2 spot in National Points trying to catch Rick Covalt.

Joel Harris was Runner Up to earn 25 points and put himself in the books for 2021.

The coordinator for this event was Slantzilla (aka Dennis Schumers the Tormentor  ) running the Buzzin' Half Duzzin'.

Uncle Tony from the YouTube video series Uncle Tony's Garage had his Project Z 68 Dart on hand for its maiden voyages down the track. He interviewed Greg Ondayko and shared it on his YouTube series.

Next up is Clay City, KY for the 26th Annual Mopar Southern Classic the weekend of 10-12 September.

Here are the updated points going into Clay City:

Rob, Ryan Peterson came from North Dakota.
That is the state above South Dakota.
:P

I fixed it. Thanks. We’ve been spelling his name wrong too… I’ll get that fixed as well.

Sorry Ryan.

We had great weather and good racing action at the 26th Annual Mopar Southern Classic at Kentucky Dragway in Clay City, KY this weekend!

We had 6 racers show up for the fun. Unfortunately, Lukus Bruner threw the #1 connecting rod on his first time trial, so we had 5 racers contending for points.

On Saturday Lou Madsen won in his turbocharged 68 Dart 4 door with Rodney Hargis runner up.

Joel Harris was third, adding more points to his success from the first ever AHRA Slanted Nationals the week before at Sikeston, MO.

Isiah Bruner and the Kentucky Poser rounded out the Motley Crew. The Poser kept trying to get other people to drive ToadRacer, but no one would take him up on it.

Sunday was a quick turn around and they got us out of there about the time the event flyer said we would be starting eliminations. That made it an easier drive home for everyone.

Rodney Hargis won Sunday with Joel Harris hot on his heels, adding even more points for 2021.

Lou was third with Isiah and the Poser bringing up the rear again.

Next up on the list is our season finale at the Mopar Muscle Dragfest in London, KY the weekend of 16-17 October. This marks the first year for a points race at this track. Long time Mopar and Slant 6 race coordinator Bobby Rogers is helping run the show there now, so this should be a great event.

The Leader Board going into the finale has Rick Covalt at 110 with Lou Madsen now hot on his heels with 105. Greg Ondayko is in third with 85, followed by Joel Harris with 65 and Rodney Hargis at 60.

We'd better start a Roll Call for the London race so we can make some predictions on who's going to be our 2021 National Champion.

Will Rick make that long tow to defend his #1 spot, or will he let Lou take it away from him? Lou has now won points at 5 events, so he has to start giving up points to the over 5 rule, making it a little more difficult to advance. Lou said he plans to attend, so with only 5 points down on Rick, all he has to do is show up to the two day event to win it. Are ya readin' this Rick...!?

Greg Ondayko is well within reach too, but he's got just as long of a tow to get there as Rick.

Joel told me he doesn't currently plan to go to London, but he's been winning quite a bit lately and I think he likes it...

And then there's Rodney Hargis who is familiar with the London track and has been known to win a race or two over the last 23 years of this Slant 6 drag racing series. He could show up and win both days to take it as well. He's done it before...

I'm gonna go start a Roll Call...

Here are the updated 2021 points going into the season finale:

Wasn't the 20th Anniversary just 3 years ago?
