Post subject:  2014 Run for the Championship!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen,... Start your engines!! :D

The first race of the 2014 season is just a little over 2 weeks away!

That's right. The Mo-Kan race is right around the corner and Team Green (Sponsored by the 66 Drive In Theater) is offering some nice incentives for folks to tow out to Asbury, Missouri. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54834

$200 to win
$100 Runner Up
$100 Long Distance
$100 Forced Induction Tow Money

Las Vegas is typically the inaugural race of each season, but this year you'll have to make it out to the Mid West to get a jump on the racing action.

The season has shaped up pretty well with 12 races for the East Coasters (they adopted the orphaned Mo-Kan folks  ) and 15 races for the Killer Bees.

Final rules for 2014 are still being finalized, so keep your eyes open for decisions like:

1. Number of races you can count for points
2. Number of attendance points
3. Points for setting a record
4. Rookie of the Year
5. E-85/Nitromethane

There may be others that I've missed.

Stay tuned right here for up to date race coverage as we battle it out for the 2014 Run for the Championship!

I'm Rob "Snagglepuss" Simmons, your Slant 6 "Laff-A-Lympics" Drag Racing commentator, bringing you the first report in our 2014 racing season.

Post subject:  MoKan Madness! Rookies Everywhere!!

Team Green had a good showing of 7 cars at the first race of the 2014 season at MoKan Raceway.

4 of the 7 racers were Rookies and the other 3 were Rookies last year!!

Way to go on recruiting Team Green!

Last year's Rookie Runner Up Rusty Heisten is our points leader after the MoKan race. Rusty was, once again, driving the Team Green '61 Lancer owned by Mark Goodman. Rusty's best pass in eliminations was an 11.04 @ 118 MPH. Mark says that they think they've found what they need to get the Lancer back into the 10's. (Rusty ran a 10.99 at Clay City last year)

Welcome back Bill Barksdale who is our current leader as Rookie of the Year. This is Bill's second appearance at MoKan and was runner up this year. Bill drives a '69 Dart in the high 20's... So, the final was Rusty's 11.06 @ 108 catching Bill's 21.05 @ 57...

Emily Booker and Austin Goodman were once again racing with us at MoKan in their "More Door" '71 and '64 Valiants running in the 18 and 19 second zones. Emily beat Austin in round one this year.

And now to introduce our three new Rookies for Slant 6 Racing:

Terry Fuller hails from Diamond, MO driving a '78 D100 with a 4 speed and ran a 17.3055 on his 17.30 Dial In for his Bye Run in Round 1.

Tom Rygmyr drove his '87 D100, also with a 4 speed, from Ft. Scott, KS and ran 18.61 @ 71 MPH in round 1.

Everett Kelley was our "Forced Induction" AND "Long Distance" representative and took home $200, courtesy of 66 Drive In Theater. Everett drove his turbo powered '66 Dart GT convertible from Crane, MO and clicked off a 17.07 @ 83 MPH, so his Droptop Dodge was starting to build some steam at the top end.

So, the first race of 2014 is complete with lots of new faces being recruited in the Mid West. And they like to bang their own gears out there too, with 4 of the 7 racers driving 4 speeds (Rusty cheats a little with that Lenco 5 speed, but I counted it anyway  )

Mopars At The Strip (MATS) in Las Vegas, NV is this weekend, but there isn't a committed Roll Call as of this writing. We'll see if Scott Jones shows up to defend his title of MATS Champion, having won this race the last two years. The "Dynamic Dutra Duo" typically tows down from Sunnyvale, CA for this race as well. The only "committed" racer thus far is Limedust70 in his '71 Demon. Romeo Furio is waiting to see who all shows before he decides whether to race or sell parts. Hopefully Limedust70 will have someone to line up against!

Here's the current Leader Board:

Rusty..Heisten....................35
Bill..Barksdale.(Rookie)........25
Emily..Booker.....................15
Terry..Fuller.(Rookie)...........15
Austin..Goodman...................5
Tom..Rygmyr.(Rookie)...........5
Everett..Kelley.(Rookie)..........5

I'm not yet sure how to color code these folks... Red for Killer Bees or Blue for East Coasters... I assume they all live West of the Mississippi, but the East Coasters adopted this orphaned race... Any votes... Anyone care...?

I've always heard: "Real race cars have 3 pedals"

It's so nice to fit in and be wanted!

Let's get more people to the races. That is what really matters!

Mark don't you think it is about time to start a mid-America team. Those in the mid-west are a long way from either East or West side and that would give a chance for more slant racers.

We split things up like that several years ago. I think there were three teams, but can't remember for sure (I was overseas at the time). It only lasted a season or two if I recall correctly.

It's really good to have Team Green racing with us again Mark! And you have cornered the market on new talent! Way to go!! :D

Post subject:  Vegas results: Scott Jones 3 for 3!!

MATS is completed and Scott Jones is 3 for 3!! He rolled into Vegas with his Dad Randy and showed, once again, that he is the man to beat in Vegas.

The Jones' have won MATS 4 times!! (Randy won in 2010  )

Scott took out Mike Keller in round 1 and met Romeo Furio in the final.
Mike was runner up to Scott in 2012.

Romeo had to take out Andrew Howard(2013 National Runner Up) to meet up with Scott.

Jerry Keltner was also on hand and ran in Test & Tune, but had transmission issues before eliminations. :(

Unfortunately, the turn out was lower than in recent years.

Doug and Allen Dutra were unable to tow down from Sunnyvale, CA.
Mark Etheridge is working on getting his car put back together after his crash last year (he needs a front left fender for a 60-62 Valiant or Lancer if you have one http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55109)
The Pines, Jesiolowskis and Stoakes' were also not present this year.

They had windy conditions at MATS again this year. Andrew and Romeo had to re-run their round 1 match up because of debris blowing across the track. Andrew has a timeslip showing the fastest ever Slant 6 run with a 4:13!!

Here's the new Leader Board:

Rusty..Heisten..................35
Bill..Barksdale.(Rookie)......25
Scott..Jones......................25

So far it is all Red with nothing but Killer Bees swarming about...

Sacramento is next 3-4 May.

Then we will get some Blue on the board with Mason-Dixon 17-18 May.

Post subject:  Sacramento Results

The Sacramento Race was run this past weekend with 5 cars making the first round.

PJ Jesiolowski had some oil problems during test & tune and was unable to race. :( But word has it that she and crew chief/husband Edd put on a pretty good BBQ spread for everyone! :D
Chase and I have experienced the "Jesiolowski Hospitality" and I can tell you it had to be good.

Our 2011 National Champion is our new points leader for 2014. Wendy Pine won Saturday and was Runner Up Sunday to take the lead.

Frank Wright won Sunday and a round on Saturday to take the Number 2 spot.

Mark Murray was Runner Up on Saturday to take over the Number 4 seat.

Our Dynamic Dutra Duo of Doug and Allen showed up to drag (and bench  ) race. Allen is one round up on his Dad.

The first East Coasters race of the season was a huge success with 15 cars on Sunday! :D

Will Burns brought out his "Oh So Low" Barracuda with turbo power to blow the crowd away with a 9.62 @ 120 MPH! And that was an aborted pass where he let off at about the 1/8 mile!

We have two brand new Rookies claiming the #2 and #4 spots on the Leader Board as well.

Great times and great racing were had this weekend in Hagerstown, MD!

The only couple issues we've had with the move so far are:

CJ's clothes for school, etc are nowhere to be found. It looks like we packed the wrong stuff (two sizes too small  )

The home computer won't turn on. :(

Not to worry! I have the points all saved on CDs and in other places.

This is my second full day back at work, so I'll be a little slammed this week.

I will find all the points I've missed over the last month and get this updated ASAP. Promise!

Post subject:  Results through Samoa (- Crossville)

Here are the updated points through the Samoa race with the exception of the Crossville, TN race that was rained out. As soon as I get the roster of folks that sat and watched the rain that weekend I will update the results to reflect their attendance points.

The 2013 and now 4 time National Champion, Ron Hamby is our new leader. He also got a nice bump in points by setting the C/Alcohol record at Farmington, NC. The rules for 2014 were changed, increasing the points for setting a record from 5 to 20. Way to go Ron!!

Ron added weight to his '66 Dart to set the open record and learned something in doing so. His 60 foot time went down, so he had been having some wheel spin off the line he was not aware of. He added weight to go FASTER!! Cool huh?

I apologize for the lack of color commentary and late posting. Moving overseas as a single parent with two kids and two dogs kinda got the better of me there for awhile.

Here's the updated Leader Board:
