Post subject:  Redding Results

Andrew "Kidd" Howard took the points lead with back to back wins at Redding, CA this weekend. He just edged out Ron Hamby by 10 points!

Andrew gives up 40 points to the "Over 5" Rule. They were going to try and run the 22 May Redding Rain Out race as well for a total of 3 races, but time just wouldn't allow it. :(

If they had run that 3rd race and Andrew had won another 3 rounds he actually wouldn't have added any more points because his top 6 races have all been 3 rounders. Check out his 0.6333 PI.

Killer Bees need to be able to increase their car counts by just a couple in order to get some 4 round races.

Unfortunately for Andrew that leaves the door open for the Top 3 East Coasters to tie it back up with just their attendance points at the remaining 2 races at Hagerstown (Mason Dixon), MD next weekend. :(

In a very unlikely scenario, the top 3 East Coasters could all be put out in the first round... That could give us a 4 WAY TIE for the 2016 Championship!  How's that for a photo finish? If that scenario were to occur, Andrew Howard would be crowned the 2016 Slant 6 Champion based on his 0.6333 Performance Index winning 19 of 30 rounds.

Ron Hamby, Ryan Covalt and Rodney Hargis are all in a 3 way tie for 2nd place going into the final big race of the 2016 season!

Ryan Covalt reset the D/Nitrous record at Wilkesboro, NC in August, adding 20 points to edge out Rodney Hargis with his 0.4375 PI to Rodney's 0.3947. Ron Hamby's PI is 0.4615, giving us the closest season finale I think we've ever seen!

You can't count out Greg Ondayko who is just 30 points behind at 160 with his superior 0.5600 PI. He has had a winning season.

That final "Wild Card" may come into play next weekend if Ron, Rodney or Greg pull out the stops for a record...

Hey Andrew Howard!! Don't forget to send in your timeslips for your secret record at Redding this weekend...

EDIT: I added 5 points to the seven racers at Redding, CA in May. I had mistakenly only given them 5 attendance points for the rained out race, but they had all stayed over hoping to race on Sunday.

Enough commentary. Here are the points:

I changed the Mokan Racers color to reflect their East Coaster status. The East/West dividing line was changed to something other than the Mississippi River beginning this year... Not sure where it is now... :?

As always, if you see any mistakes please let me know.

With the points all tied up at the top I offered my Valiant to Ryan for the final 2 races. It should be a lot more consistent than his Duster. At least that is the hope. So the final two races should a hoot!!

Also just spoke to Mark Charapich, and he and Timmy are coming up in Timmy's truck to try and win some rounds and get the ROY trophy! Woo! Hooo!

Timmy will have to win 2 rounds to take ROY. One round will tie him for points, but James Soard has a perfect 1.0000 3/3 P.I.

Almost 1/4 (24%) of the racers this year are Rookies! :D

Good luck Timmy! And all racers.

Post subject:  More end of season fun!!

Back in May the Redding race was rained out... But all racers had stayed over hoping to race Sunday.

I had mistakenly only given them 5 attendance points for Saturday...

Andrew Howard and the other 6 racers at Redding get another 5 points.

That puts just a tad more pressure on the top East Coasters this weekend... 😉

Andrew now has an even 200. 😃

Post subject:  Mason Dixon Results

Mason Dixon race results are in. Quite the battle between the top 3 East Coasters!!

There is a blow by blow posted in the Event Calendar. As it stands right now, Ryan Covalt is in the #1 seat!!

Word has it that both Rodney Hargis and Ron Hamby added weight to their cars in order to re-set records in the heavier class for the extra 20 points. I told you that Wild Card might come into play.

If both Rodney and Ron have records confirmed by Seymour, the rankings will change to Rodney, Ron and Ryan for the top 3 spots.

Followed by the Killer Bee I've been pullin' fer all season Andrew Howard in the #4 spot. Andrew still has the best Performance Index of 0.6333 winning 19 of 30 rounds. :P

Here are the points breakout for Mason Dixon and the updated Championship standings. We still have one race left to compete at Tulsa, Oklahoma on 5 November.

EDIT: Rodney's and Ron's D/G records were confirmed by Seymour for an additional 20 points.

#1:
Rodney Hargis - 45
Ron Hamby - 35
Greg Ondayko - 25
Rick Covalt - 15
Ryan Covalt - 15
Lou Madsen - 5
Tom Kagarise - 5
Tim Charapich - 5
Brian Droschak - 5
Andrew Shank - 5

#2:
Denny Covalt - 45
Ryan Covalt - 35
Brian Droschak - 25
Greg Ondayko - 10
Tim Charapich - 10
Ron Hamby - 5 + 20 = 25
Rodney Hargis - 5 + 20 =25
Rick Covalt - 5
Andrew Shank - 0
Lou Madsen - 0

Post subject:  Back home and back to reality.

This weekend was a much needed break, but now that it is over, Rodney and I have some tough news to share. The Monday following the Knoxville race we experience a second miscarriage. Following the miscarriage I had what was supposed to be a simple, routine procedure. The results were not anything we were prepared for. I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Luckily it was caught early. I will be having surgery November 1 @ Emory University Hospital.

Your prayers are appreciated.

Alanna sent me copies of Rodney's time slips for Sunday. It looks like he set a new D/G record of 13.443 and 97.66 MPH and backed it up at 1:10PM. They are sending the paperwork by mail. What class did Ron Hamby set his record in? What was the time when he made his record and back up runs?

I am distressed to hear about Alanna's surgery but it is heartening to know somebody is trying to raise some new slant 6 racers.

Alanna, I am very sorry to hear the news. You will certainly be in Whitney and my thoughts and prayers.

Seymour, Ron also broke the D/G record on Sunday. Rodney and Ron both added weight to be heavy enough for the D class. I don't know the exact time the record was set but it should have been at the same time Rodney made his runs. They both broke the record and backed them up in the 2 time runs we had Sunday.

Rob, I didn't realize I was actually that close in the points. Do you know if it is even mathematically possible for me to win the points (if I was to drive to Tulsa for the last race?) I'd really rather not drive 18 hrs one way, but I might never be this close again. :D I don't think I could gain 20 points unless they have 2 races but i thought i'd ask you.

Thanks!

Hey Ryan,

You have already given up your two lowest round races (Wilkesboro and Hagerstown 1 rounders).

So the next race you will have to give up will be one of the 2 rounders.

That means that even if you were able to win 3 rounds at Tulsa you would only add a total of 15 points. With Rodney's record just confirmed he is now 20 points ahead of you. :(

Can you win 4 rounds at Tulsa to add 25 points for the Championship...?

I'm a pretty optimistic kinda guy, but it is going to very difficult.

Disappointing, but maybe a relief that it makes that 18 hour drive a little less compelling.

Sorry Rusty, but I gotta call it like I see it.

I really hope Tulsa turns out a great car count and becomes one of our regular races to give more of the Midwestern racers a chance to get involved.

Post subject:  Ron Hamby's Record

Technically Rodney set his about 2 minutes before Ron, as Rodney and a Covalt were the first pair in for time trials, with Ron somewhere inline behind him.

However, per the official rules "All racers breaking a specific existing record on any give race weekend (even if there are two races on both sides of the country on the same weekend) shall receive the 20 bonus points." So it really doesn't matter who set it first, as they both broke the existing record, on the same race weekend.
