I will update the points to reflect Ron and Charlie's records tomorrow.

That puts Ron in 2nd and Charlie just ahead of Doug Dutra.

I updated all of the records on the records page. Let me know if you see any mistakes. I put my record, charlies and rons record up. I did make mention that rodney broke the record as well but it didn't make the list since ron broke it the same day.

I had already added Charlie's points. He still has 30, not 50 to put him ahead of Doug Dutra. Sorry about that. Ron Hamby is in 2nd now though.

I just went back and edited the last points post.

Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all your prayers. I came through my surgery well. As of right now surgical results were better than we every could have hoped for. I will meet with my gynecological surgeon in 3 weeks to discuss if any additional treatment will be needed.

Post subject:  Tulsa Results

They had a good turnout at Tulsa this weekend with 7 cars making the call. Team Green did another great job of recruiting 3 Rookies to race with us.

That brings the total Rookie count for the 2016 season to a whopping 20!!
That's 27% of the racers this season. I'll have to check, but I think that must be a record in itself.

The total racer count for 2016 is an impressive 74; making it the 6th largest turnout in our 19 years of official Slant 6 Racing.

Unfortunately, the ladder for the Tulsa race was compromised when one of the racers opted for the "Buy Back" offered by the track. That effectively made Tulsa a 1 round race, giving everyone the 5 attendance points and the first round winners their 10 points for that first round only. Post subject:  2016 Final!!!

What a great year of Slant 6 Drag Racing!!!

There were 27 races competed across the country by 74 different racers. That makes 2016 the 6th largest turnout in our 19 year history. And to top that off, 20 of those racers were Rookies. That's 27% new racers added to the Slanted Family.

It was a great battle for the Championship this year that came down to the wire at Mason Dixon between the top 3 finishers. When the tire smoke cleared in Maryland it was Rodney Hargis that managed to unseat Ron Hamby for the 2016 National Championship, followed closely by Ryan Covalt looking for his first National Championship. This makes Rodney's third. All three of the top finishers took advantage of the additional 20 points earned for setting an official record. Rodney and Ron were both seen throwing bricks, sandbags and dead chickens in the back seats of their cars to add enough weight to re-set the D/Gas record at Mason Dixon. Ryan had set his record earlier in the season.

The top finisher out West was Andrew Howard who gave it his best, winding up with an impressive 0.6333 Performance Index winning 19 of 30 rounds for the season. Unfortunately, for Andrew the Killer Bees just haven't had the car counts for anything more than 3 round races this season. Just a couple more 4 round races like they had at Woodburn in June could make the difference.

Other notables to mention:

Greg Ondayko who was really dialed in as usual. He just wasn't able to attend enough races for that last push.

Rusty Heisten who typically gets the Long Distance award for towing from the Midwest to the East Coast finished with a 0.5500 P.I. Rusty and the rest of Team Green hosted the final race of the season at Tulsa, OK. Early reports on the race indicated that a potential upset may have been brewing in and amongst the corn fields and barns of the Midwest, causing a little concern for those top 3 finishers... The Tulsa race had a great turnout for an inaugural event, but it wasn't enough to overthrow those top finishers.

Rick Covalt!! Yes, the same "Red Light Rick" we all know and love finished at #7 in the National Championship. Rick won all the marbles at the Wilkesboro race this year. Way to go Rick!!

Rookie of the Year was earned by Jeff Strahl who showed up at Tulsa looking for his friend James Soard so they could duke it out for the title... James was out cruising around in the sweet '64 Valiant wagon previously owned by Bob Stepp and missed the race, allowing Jeff to take the title.

I'm Rob "Snagglepuss" Simmons, your International Slant 6 "Laff-A-Lympics" Drag Racing commentator, bidding you a fond adieu as we wrap up the 2016 National Slant 6 Drag Racing Championship!!.

(No Cookie, a "fond adieu" ain't that melted cheese stuff you like so much...  ) The definition of adieu is a French word used to wish someone well when you are leaving. Y'all know Cookie's French, right? I proved it this summer. Later,... Mater

I think Mark has "Buy Backs" name. He was a nice kid that just wanted to get in a few more runs and I hope he comes to our races in the future. In thinking back what we should have done is had somebody else buy back and had the two of them race each other then give the third round bye to the winner of the buy back race who would go into the final round that wouldn't count for points. That way all the other racers could have had all their points count. Just a thought if this ever happens again.

Thanks Seymour.

I have PM'd with Mark and got the story. Hopefully the young guy will be back again. Perhaps he will even sign up here and get involved as well.

I'm going to leave it as Buy Back for now. At least until the Dust...er settles a little.

Good thoughts on working around it if this Buy Back issue does happen again. Mistakes and miscommunications do happen. Your suggestion is a good way to overcome it and not penalize the other racers.

Looking forward to 2017! I see that the MATS 2017 thread has already been started.
