when i first got the 83 D150 back together in 2013 I used a Mallory HEI module that I bought from Summit. The Mallory HEI failed after about 10 months, it had a 1 year warranty and the good folks at Summit sent me a replacement at no charge. To get the D150 back up and running while awaiting the replacement, I purchased a Duralast 4 pin HEI from Autozone. When I received the replacement Mallory HEI, I installed it and put the Duralast HEI in storage for a spare.

Sure enough, last week the replacement Mallory also failed. It did last from 2014 to 2017, so three years, but that is not acceptable.

When the Mallory HEI failed, I reinstalled the Duralast HEI and purchased an AC Delco 4 pin HEI through RockAuto.

Today I installed the AC Delco HEI and again, put the Duralast back as a spare.

I comparing the Mallory, Duralast and AC Delco HEI's.

the shape of the electrical tangs, the plastic cover mold and misc manufacturing stake marks on the back are identical between the AC Delco and Duralast modules. The Duralast module does not have GM molded into it, but it does have the rectangular imprint that encircles the GM mark on the AC Delco module. Looks like an insert in the plastic mold..

Both the the Duralast and the AC Delco boxes said assembled in the USA.

the RockAuto Ac Delco module has a 12 month 12K mile warranty, the Duralast has a lifetime warranty.

here are photos

The front photo is the Mallory, Duralast and AC Delco top to bottom
The back photo is the AC Delco on top, Duralast in the middle and Mallory on the bottom.

looks to me that the AC Delco and Duralast HEI's are manufactured through the same processing equipment.

the Mallory HEI modules are definitely processed through different manufacturing equipment.

Delcos are good for 5-7 years

I get many Years out of MSD modules.

I would not buy any of their other products.
