Don Pal,

The FSM says if the motor doesn't park right or runs on after the switch is off, mine does both, then it is a bad motor.

Also, I've read that different motors use different shafts/linkage, so I can't willy nilly interchange them.

The early ones don't seem to have the green wire, there is no green wire from my motor to the bulkhead, so nothing for the green wire at the switch to connect to.

There is a guy on ebay that purports to rebuild these for $200, better than the link above ($500).

Brian

Getting to know your results if you do decide to get your motor rebuilt would be helpful.

But dropping that amount on a rebuild needs to follow verifying that the bulkhead wiper wire connections are decent. Seems a continuity test would be worth the effort. Perhaps disconnecting the motor plug would be the first step for getting one lead of your tester hooked up on the motor side of the firewall? Sneaking another tester lead onto the proper wiper switch plug connections would be the other task?

Seems strange that Mopar would allow the dark green wire to dangle on the instrument side without a home......at least they could have brought it over to the bulkhead even if it wasn't going to be used by the wiper motor given that 67 had a range of wiper motor possibilities? It feels like a mod has been made on your 67 in the past especially given that a wiper motor with a non 67 part number exists?
Maybe your 67 has a different wiper switch than it was born with?.....ie currently a two speed wiper switch in a variable speed wiper motor application?

Yes, the FSM has test parameters for the wiper switch. Also, yes, it is worth some diagnostics before pulling the trigger on any purchases.

The part number on my wiper switch is for a '70 variable speed wiper, but appears to be the same contacts, identical to the '67 part number for variable speed wiper switch. That said it does have the green wire going nowhere.

In the FSM for '67, the wiring diagram does indicate a green wire, but there is definitely no green wire, nor are there indications that there ever was, on my wiper motor. I suspect this was an inter-year thing, where they planned, going forward to use the extra wire, use motors that have it, but were still currently using the motor units without the green wire.

Interesting, the '67 FSM says if it is a 2-speed motor there is a park mechanism to check, but for the variable speed motors they say simply it is a bad motor if you have these issues. The '69 FSM just goes straight to "bad motor" for these issues.

So both the motor and switch are possibly not 67. But the harness(s) might have been? = dangling wire?

Although a distraction to your problem & an ultimate solution it may answer the green wire issue?

Interested in your wire continuity results from motor plug to wiper switch plug in.

Also suggest at the same time look to see if the right wire at the motor plug is going to the right connection at the wiper switch.

Making sure that there is a continuous circuit from the motor plug connection to the correct wiper switch connection makes sense given the 67 appearing mods.

It appears that the wiper motor and linkage are original. The wiper switch is not. The wiring/pigtails I'm not sure. I've looked at the part number for the '67 wiper switch, it appears to have the same blades/terminals as the later switch. Clearly the earlier wiper motors didn't have the green wire. Obviously the previous owner replaced the switch with a later unit, but it is for a variable wiper. It could very well be that the pigtail is original and the green wire wasn't used, or that the previous owner used a pigtail from the new switch.

I'll dig a bit deeper, do some testing on the switch and the motor, check for ground and continuity. The wires do go to the right places, blue to blue, red to red, brown to brown, but again, no green on the motor so no connection there.

OK, I did some more research and I think I have the issues nailed down.

First, my motor is the part number is 2822963. This was an early unit, not in the FSM for '67. It does not have a green wire because it is not a variable or 3 speed unit, though it looks like one. It is actually a 2 speed motor. Thanks to Jerry over at Passion4mopars, he pegged this instantly (thanks to SL6 Dan for the referral).

So, I have the wrong switch in there for starters. And, they also suggested that it may well be a grounding issue as well.

Passions4mopars list part number 2822963 wiper as a variable speed for 66 to 67 at their website?? It has a nice listing of wiper motors from early 60 and up but 2822963 is not listed as a 2 speed.

Yeah, they're gonna have to change that, it's a 2 speed. Which i did a big "duh" to myself after thinking about it (and consulting with an electrical expert).

Consider the wiring:

2 wires = 1 speed

3 wires = 2 speeds

4 wires = 3 speeds

Mine has 3 wires.

BTW, while I have that wiper unit pulled, I plan to change the wiper post gaskets, mine fell apart when I removed the pivots. I also drilled the pivot arms and installed grease fittings, pumped them full of grease. They were in great shape otherwise very little play in them.

Note, the 2-speed wiper switch has two blades where the red/green wire pigtail goes. The 3 speed switch also has two blades there for that pigtail. On the 3-speed or variable switch those two blades are separate circuits, on blade for red wire, one blade for the green wire. On the two-speed switch the two blades are connected at the base, so it's the same circuit, i.e. only the red wire is required, that's why the green wire was left unconnected.

It's a bit sloppy for a production model but only you would find it or someone doing a switch repair. Is there any chance that that setup occurred during a repair....ie wasn't a factory thing?
