My reverse lights were working fine. I changed out my rear bumper to get it rechromed, ran an old bumper, lights were working. I just installed my newly rechromed bumper and my reverse lights don't work, or they come on sporadically. OK, so I'm thinking bad ground. I tested the lights with a battery, by touching positive to reverse light socket wire and touched negative to the outside of the the bezel - both work fine. I checked ground for each, there is good ground. I even hooked up separate ground wire from bezel screw to chassis, checked to make sure that ground is good, still when I put it in reverse sometimes one or the other comes on, but they flicker and don't stay on. So, I'm thinking this is something upfront, maybe the switch in the column is bad? What should I check? All other lights are working.

Extra Note: I had been working in the instrument cluster last week, had the steering column down, when I reinstalled it, the linkage was tight due to misalignment, but I got it back where it was supposed to be, linkage moves freely, car shifts fine. Could I have messed up the reverse switch in the column?

Yes, On the '67's the column switch activates the reverse lights unlike the late cars... at the base of the column is a 2 prong connector that looks like it's bent at an angle... As I remember right the wire colors were violet and white, you can access the column circuit at this connection and see if it's the switch or something else...

That was it. The switch was out of alignment. I removed it, cleaned it up, bench tested it, works fine. Reinstalled and adjusted, reverse lights are working perfectly, thanks so much. :D
