Hello, all. I'm not new, but haven't been on here in a long time. My prior screen name here was "Metal Circus" but I decided to just re register. Over the winter, after being without a running Mopar for over 10 years, I purchased a '74 Dart 4 door for $450. It has a strong running low mileage '68 198 and an auto trans. My main purpose for it is racing, of course! I took it to Dragway 42 in West Salem, OH for test and tune. I ran 2 good passes, 18.81 at 72.93, and 18.70 at 73.41. The third pass was a mess. I wanted to do an "in car" video, so I jury rigged the camera on the dash. I went way red, missed my 1-2 shift badly, and leaves blew through the sensors and tripped the timers before I even hit the 60 foot clocks! Still, I have the video here:

I have no solid plans for improvements yet. It needs attention to the brakes and the front end. I hope to do a few low buck upgrades as the season progresses.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to get some more times and improvements soon!

Glad to see you aboard, Ron. 1970-74 were the years for the 198, IIRC. Looks like good passes for a stocker! Room to grow, though...

Bring it out to a Slant 6 race!

Best,

Lou

Ah, it might be a 225, then. Where would I llok for a code, and how would I decipher it. It was originally a 198 car, but the guy I bought it from had changed the motor, and had no idea of displacement.

Went to Dragwy 42 again yesterday. I made about 10 passes. I learned a bit more about how the car reacts to sitting for a while, back to back runs, etc. Passes ranged from an 18.80 to a 19.04. Not terribly consistent, but I was trying a few things out. I am starting to get my RT's somewhat dialed in, my last one was an .015. I will have to change the ball joints before I go out again, my front tires are in worse shape than I thought...I probably wouldn't have gone had I looked at them before I left the house!
