Had a great weekend (4/12-13) of road course pounding at VA Int'l Raceway (VIR - www.virclub.com) with the Tar Heels Sports Car Club (www.thscc.com).

Put the hurt on a bunch of sports cars on the VIR South road course, passing everyone in my group (intermediate) except a mildly modified '96 M3 and a more modified late-90s 328, both with racing tires (I run Yokohama AVSi street tires). Best lap times were 1:31s around the 1.64 mile course, but I had no completely "open" laps where no one was in front of me either. Topped out at 113-4 MPH at the end of the main straight before braking for turn 1 (at 6200 RPM redline in 4th gear with 3.91 axle ratio). For anyone in the NC/VA area, I heartily recommend a THSCC event - very cleanly run and a nice bunch. Pretty good drivers too. Had a great instructor and made a ton of progress on my driving technique, especially incorporating 5spd smoothness.

Only problems were that I broke an alt/water pump belt late Saturday, and I ran off the track once at about 70 MPH :o at the end of the day yesterday and my upper rad hose popped off, but no worries - easy fixes and no permanent harm done. 8)

I also recently clocked 24 MPG at 75MPH for a 400 mile trip with the 5spd and EFI. Still a little more tuning to go too...

The Megasquirt/Holley TBI combo performed well on the road course, with no excessive heat or problems.

I talked to two fab guys about putting a roll bar in so I can run time trials, so that'll happen in the next few months along with some subframe connectors... and some more power.

Cheers,

Lou

Went to the 25th Mopar Nats and had fun this weekend. Car ran 14.56@94.8MPH (9.35@75.8 1/8th split, 2.16 short time) on Sat in 96F and high humidity. Also needs more fuel mixture according to O2 sensor. A little more tuning and good air and 13s will be no problem.

Burped a little water into #6 cyl idling a few min after the run but sealed itself back up. I put a cheaper ROL gasket in and I'll be switching back to Fel-Pro. Although, I remember I might have nicked it when installing the head so I'll pull it off sometime soon and we'll see...

24MPG @75 MPH on the way there and back to boot, through the WV/VA mountains...

Lou
