Configuring MS I for wideband?

While using the back-up MS I, I would like to hook up the Wide band sensor. But this version of MS I has nothing but a voltage cross over point to set. Should I just set it for 2.5 volts? There is a selection of narrow or Wide band sensor of course. but nothing more other than the cross over voltage.
I have read the manual in various places and cannot find a section that discusses the Inovate sender in conjunction with this older MS I.
Is there any point in hooking up the wide band sensor to an MS I?

What voltage is 14.7?
I think that's where you'd set it.
Also, it would be an inverse function. Narrowband has higher voltages being rich. A wideband has higher voltages being lean._________________ Ed

I could not find that information in the manual. There is lots of info about programing the output to something specific, but honestly, it made no sense to me. Megasquirt says to just keep it at the factory setting. But the voltage for 14.7 did not pop out at me. Five volts is 22.39 and 0 volts is 7.35. I don;t know if it is linear though.

The average of those two AF ratios is 14.89. So 2.5v should be 14.89. That works for me. Nw here is the next question. Does this buy you anything to have a wide band with MS I? I guess the display gauges give you more meaningful output. I don't think the feedback system uses that information in any way. Maybe I am wrong about that though.
Bottom line: I guess I will go ahead and hook it up and see.
Man it is cold out there in the garage. It is 21 on our outdoor thermo this morning.

Hmm... my MS I let me use wideband. Are you sure you have the O2 sensor type set to 'wideband' in Megatune?
Otherwise, I agree with the previous posters that 2.5 will get you to 14.7-ish AFR._________________ It's a Slant thing. Even I don't understand.

Unfortunately the appearance of your tuning screen is a function of the firmware code installed into MS, and mine is old, and not all that sophisticated. Later versions allowed more. MS I extra has even more tuning provisions.

Hmm.. well, mine was no newer than 2004 when I installed the wideband. This was in my Ramcharger. I set one output from the LC-1 to wideband and ran it to the MS-I, and the other output to narrow and ran it to the gauge. Worked well. I don't remember updating the firmware in the MS-I past 2004. I could be wrong though._________________ It's a Slant thing. Even I don't understand.

What do the tuning screens look like for your O 2 sensor?

I knew you would ask I don't have anything that's MS I anymore. In MS 2.25, under the Fuel Setup menu -> EGO control, you should have an option to select 'wideband' under the EGO sensor type. That should set you up for your wideband settings._________________ It's a Slant thing. Even I don't understand.

That is correct with the firmware installed on my MS I in operation now. They also ask for the crossover voltage, which I think is all you can set with this version. However on later firmware developments there is much more information asked for. In the MS IIextra v2.1.0, which my other ECU is set up with, there is a drop down menu with various manufacturers listed to select from. No such thing on the MS I.
But, I think typing in 2.5 v for the cross over voltage will make this read and function correctly. I hope. If it ever warms up enough to go out and fool with the car, I will let you know. You guys in California don't know how spoiled you are. Maybe you do.

Yes, I agree Sam. 2.5v should be what you need for that WB._________________ It's a Slant thing. Even I don't understand.

Thanks. This should work then. I took the car out for a spin last night, and was glad I did since there was snow on the ground this morning when we woke up. Nothing like you guys in Minnesota though. That was something.
I have not hooked up the wide band yet though to the ECU. It is still throwing error codes and Inovate tells me I need a new sensor, so that is on the list. It works for awhile before throwing the code.
When I re calibrated it, I wiped off the carbon built up. Did I damage it by doing that? I think I will ask this question in a separate thread.
