Hi,just finished new /6 engine built to run nitrous and need help with intake manifold. We,re running the Aussie Speed long runner 4 barrell manifold with a 500 Edelbrock performer carb and NOS powershot plate system. This manifold has the 4 holes below the carb cast in the manifold and we need to know if machining these out or fitting an open spacer between the manifold and No2 plate is the better way to go for proper distribution. This is first time with nitrous so trying to sort all the small stuff we have no idea about. This will pretty much be a dedicated strip stormer so prepared to chop up bits if it helps.Cheerz Paulie

Paulie,

I think you are in uncharted territory here, as I don't know that anyone has run the Aussiespeed with N2O yet in the US. I would say it probably won't make a difference. That intake should have excellent distirbution nat aspirated, as good as any plenum-type intake out there.

Best of luck!

Lou

If you have the hood clearance, just install the plate and try it out.
Stay on the consertive side with the N2O jetting and be sure to have good fuel pressure while spraying.

Paulie,

Have you looked at the holes in the spray bar to see if they will end up pointed at part of the manifold? I've seen plates with the spray holes unevenly distributed and if they are spraying into the clear I don't see a problem. Doc has pointed out before though that if the plate is oriented with the spray bar front-to-rear the left side of the manifold will tend to 'wet out' with fuel which could create distribution problems.

Thanx for the replies, guess we,ll spray and see what happens. DD only gonna pop 75hp settings to start. We have a Schnitz progressive controller which controls the solenoid pulsing, so you can set it at 20% pulse speed to leave the line and ramp it up to desired final hp over a predetermined time(say 6secs to get to 75hp).We,re hoping going this way we can stop some of the initial shock of a big dose of N20 all at once, which hopefully in time will let us use stupid amounts of squeeze Very Happy Very Happy .Sort of the same way a turbo slowly increases boost.Motor has H beams, forged BRC pistons, studs throughout and good vavles and springs so should hold together ok. 75 horse shot does not need to be progressive, spray away. It's when you get over 150 you'll start to have issues.

As far as the 4 holes go, I had a 4 hole carb plate on mine when I started spraying. I had it machined out later and it changed nothing.

Charlie Schmid leaves the line on a 150 shot (170 motor) and never looks back. Low 13s so far in a 3000+ lb car.

If you havent bought the manifold yet get ahold of Frank,I returned the Aussie manifold that I cut the holes out of it.With a plate I am pretty sure you will need a open one.Mark

I ran 75-120 shot with the Aussie intake with no issues. I made sure my spray bars clear the webbing.

The problem came at 180 but that was unrelated to the intake. Damn timing LOL!
