Well here in the hilly back country section of Oregon a lot of people enjoy the hobby of drifting. I was wondering if anybody on the forum has intentionally drifted their slant for fun or competition? I have gotten my Dart sideways before in corners (safe, controlled environment, before I get flamed it wasn't public roads) and I am amazed how well it responds in a drift. I have driven a few cars that are specifically set up for drifting and I can say my car can actually compete for ease of drifting, and comfort; I don't have to listen to a ricey exhaust drone under me or look at a very barren interior.

I drift my truck around corners when it rains, and not on purpose Laughing Really a slant six a body is a fairly balanced car,and set up right it could be a great drift car. The torsion bar front and rear leafs make for very stiff/tough front and rear suspension, which is a good thing for drifting. If you really want to get into it I would suggest front and rear sway bars, poly bushings, light 16-18" wheels with lo profile tires, and some kind of baffeling in the oil pan to keep from starving the pickup under intense cornering. Also baffeling in the fuel tank would be a good idea also.

On wet pavement or gravel roads, a Slant A-body is a thing of beauty. Even on dry, they are quite controllable in a drift.

Well it looks like PIR (Portland international raceway) is going to have a couple fun drift track days, if I feel up to it and give it a try I might take the dart up there for the day and tear up some tires. I can suprisingly get this almost stock car to spin the tire(s) just by powering on at the right moment. The only thing that concerns me is the 7 1/4 peg leg, I don't think it will take the abuse. Oh well, I might just trailer it to and from the track and swap rears the day after if I have to.

If I end up going I'll try and get some footage of a sideways dart

Yes, snow goes without saying. I probably put 10k all sideways miles on beater cars in WI winters...
