Post subject: Car sale: The one who 1st called or the 1 who paid deposit? (Tue Mar 06, 2012 9:34 pm) Reply with quote

This may be an obvious question, but Ive never really sold a 2nd hand car before ... so...

I have been trying to sell my '82 Alfetta for a month now and a guy (actually quiet a few) called up and expressed interest on the car. One guy said "Ok I agree to take the car at that price but only after seeing the car", which is at my hometown 120 miles away. The carb is leakin badly so i cant drive her here... but he didnt actually paid any deposit...

then another guy came along offered me 500 bucks and will take the car "As is" without even looking at the car (he only saw pictures).

Now I dont know whether it is right to take the deposit and sell it to him. Should I give the 1st guy who called the 1st right of refusal?

Syed

I'd call the 1st guy and be honest with him.Tell you have someone who wants it sight unseen and has the cash. If he agrees to take it "now" and gives you the cash, that is fair too. If he hesitates, 2nd guy gets it. The other side is the first guy should have offered to give you a little something to hold it for him.

My opinion, Rick

"Do unto others" always wins.

Call the first guy and tell him the truth... that you've got someone with cash, itching to buy.

If the first guy isn't putting cash into your hand by Saturday morning, then it goes to the guy with the cash on Saturday afternoon.

Others maybe by right by giving a guy a chance but, "First come, First served, cash is King!" If you look at a car and it really interests you but unsure to buy it then someone else comes along and buys it out from under you, you lose! Question, Why didn't the first guy throw you a deposit? He said he'd buy it after looking at it and others will give you cash on the spot, I think your refusing to answer your own question here on what to do, JMHO. Good Luck

Now there is a rear spoiler that exerts good down force at low speeds

You did the honest thing. Someone who wants a seller to wait a couple of weeks till he gets a chance to see it really isn't very serious.

Good sale!
