| Yes, the 260, 289,302 351W and 351C all share the same bellhousing bolt pattern and will bolt up. As for the flywheel/flexplate, I think the one for the 302 will bolt on, but is balanced differently than the Cleveland's, and may be even a smaller diameter(starter engagement issues). If nothing else, take the flywheel/flexplate off of the Cleveland and have the 302 matched to it so you can use the 302 flywheel/flexplate. Have a machine shop look at both of them to verify though, Ford did some strange things and some things like this can create some sticky issues, but nothing you cant resolve with a little head scratching.

Ya we had to get the correct intake and headers for it awhile back it's ready to drop in besides the whole motor mount/ flex plate issues.

I asked Jim from fitts ford service dept and his reply:
Yeah thats an easy swap. The Flywheel for the 351 will work on the C4 trans in the mustang, Motor mounts are the same, You'll need all fron brackets for the Alt, P/S and A/C if it has it. Larger radiator would be a good addition too. I did this swap on a 67 cougar and it was a very nice bolt in. Good luck Jim

Most of the 1971-1973 Clydesdale Mustangs got the FMX tranny, which is an ok midrange tranny. The C4 is a bit like our 904, if you build it right it will take the punishment the bigger engines can give...if it's stock it will wither on you.
Yeah Ford did some crappy stuff...I argue it with my inlaws all the time...usually it ends with: At least the 318 crank came neutral balance and not 8 lbs out of whack like the 302...or worse 15 lbs on the 5.0...

The C4 clutches are a lot smaller than the 904 clutches, might be better to use C6 transmission.

| C-6 would be much better than an FMX. Those things were great until they broke, then they are a nightmare to repair.

The FMX was used behind the Cleveland. It's basically a beefed C4. The C4 can handle quite a bit. If your sticking with the 2bbl you will probably be OK. The 2bbl Clevland heads are very different from the 4bbl Clevland heads. Parts like intakes don't interchange. Be aware of that if your ordering an aftermarket manifold. You can get a 4bbl intake for 2bbl heads. If you order a 4bbl intake for the OEM 4bbl head and you have 2bbl heads, it won't fit.
The Clevland block isn't as strong as the Windsor. Before you get too carried away, know that the Windsor can be modified to use the Clevland heads. It's a coolant flow issue. Should be able to find lots of info on Google.
The Windsor with the clevland heads is almost as good as a Windsor with aftermarket heads. Not quite, but it'll pump it up a few ponies.
The Cleveland block isn't as strong as the Windsor, but it is heavier. Don't get all crazy with RPM. They are pretty famous for twisting oil pump driveshafts off, and bending the dickens out of pushrods. Keep your foot out of it when the engine is cold.
You are talking a Clevland, not a Mod, right? Unless you just like buying gasoline, I'd leave the 302 in there over a mod.
