Super Six Choke Coil & Intake port

Hey guys,
Finally upgraded from my single barrel Holley to the Carter BBD.
Even though I kept the stock exhaust, the car runs amazing now! I'm loving the new power and the new sound.
I do have a question however. There doesn't seem to be a place to hook up the new choke coil on the Carter. The car seems to run fine without it but I don't even know what the choke coil does. When I try to look it up, everything is about electronic chokes. Can anybody explain what the choke coil does and do I need it?
Also, on my single barrel manifold, I had an entirely different vacuum port than the two barrel manifold has.
Here are two pictures of the vacuum port from the single barrel (I haven't take a picture of the two barrel port yet)
The port of the two barrel is thin and without all the side ports. My thinking is that the hose coming from my Vacuum power booster (?) won't fit correctly on the new port but maybe just the wire will (I have no idea what either of these things do. Can someone please explain?)

You can swap the one barrel vacuum tree over to the two barrel intake manifold. They unscrew.
What do you mean by "choke coil"? Do you meant the thermostatically assisted choke pulloff assembly that bolts into the exhaust manifold? The one barrel assembly is completely different from the two barrel assembly, and they are not interchangeable. I highly recommend the CarbsOnly electric choke conversion kit.
Oh yeah, clean out that cowl drain over the intake ASAP! |

Very cool, I'll switch them out later today then. Wanted to make sure they'd be interchangeable before doing it. Should I use some lock thread on it?
Ya, the choke pull-off coil referred to in your supersix article. I changed them out when I did the switch but they seem to be the exact same (I might have been given the wrong one from the guy I bought it off of, I can post pictures later today) Also, I think I should mention that my BBD is from a 318 (according to SlantSixDan), so I don't know if that will make a difference when it comes to how the choke connects. I will look into those electric chokes.
What is the Cowl Drain?

First:
This is how rainwater drains from the cowl on your Aspen/Volare/Diplomat/LeBaron (I can see you have an F or M body, but I don't know what kind).
Second, you have a 318 BBD which means neither the factory Super Six thermostatic choke assembly not the CarbsOnly electric choke kit will not work with your carb. The chokes are designed to operate a little differently between the two carbs. The 318 choke butterfly linkage is designed to be actuated by a rod that moves straight up and down while the 225 choke butterfly linkage is designed to be actuated by a rod that move in a fore and aft diagonal manner. The following picture has a slant six BBD on the left and a 318 BBD on the right. You can see the slight difference in the linkage and I have provided arrows showing the proper movement of the thermostatic choke linkage for each carb. Note that both these carbs have the choke in the fully open position in this photograph:
However, board member Fab64 came up with a simple piece you can make that will allow the factory choke assembly to work with your carb:

I'll pull those leaves out when I get home then. When I first got the car I spent at least 3 hours pulling leaves out of the car (it seemed to me that the guy who owned it before me was growing a tree in the car  ).
Now that I see the pictures you posted, it is very obvious that the guy I bought my super six conversion off of gave me the wrong choke. Since I have no choke that will work for my set up, I'll e-mail carbsonly to see about picking up an electric one.

No worries. I have gotten LOTS AND LOTS of help from members on this board as well as other folks over the years. I am happy to return the favor.
I have a soft spot for F bodies as my first few Mopars were Volares. |
