power steering pump leak

When I run my engine, it runs a little hyper due to the 4 barrel carb and headers. I get power steering fluid being shaken right up the pump out the cap and running down the pump on to the street. Does anyone know if trace amounts of power steering fluid leaking out of a 225 slant 6 is par for the course, normal, etc.? Or is it possible that I have too much fluid in the car or a defective cap?

My power steering pump was a leaking mess when I got the car. For the longest time I thought that fluid was being blown out past the cap’s sealing gasket, and kept topping it up to about a half an inch above the tank into the neck.

I started to keep the pump clean, and noticed that when the fluid was below the neck’s attachment point the leak stopped, and the pump and its surrounding area stayed much cleaner. I discovered that the mechanical connection of the power steering fluid tank, and its neck was leaking, and when filled above the level of the seam, fluid would ooze out, and get blown by the fan all over nearby surfaces.

Solution was to degrease the crimped seam, clean to bare metal, solder the joint inside and out, and repaint the tank. I found some large “O” rings to seal the tank to pump at an industrial supply joint, Timken Bearing; a bag of three for a few bucks.

Thanks, guys. I notice that the cap vibrates around. It says it is "vented," does that mean that it should fit kinda loose to allow for fluid overflow out of the cap, or should I find a way to get the seal on the cap tight so that it does not move around?
