My slant has a Clifford Intake and a Carter 4bbl off a 273. Noticed on my fuel pressure gauge that it's only reading 2.5lbs at idle. What should these cars run for fuel pressure? I'm thinking i'm going to need more like 5psi. This car is used primarily for drag racing only.

The pump was new last year when i installed it. I'm going to try another good known gauge before i try another pump.

Is there any kind of mechanical pump better than another? I know that they don't make a performance pump for the slant. I may just end up putting an electric pump set-up with a regulator down the road if i can't get it where i need it to be.

The replacement pumps that I have tried have never had more the 2-3 psi of pressure. They also didn't have enough volume to keep the fuel bowls full. I eventually went with a BBM fuel pump for a 440 6 PAC.

To use this pump you need to change the pump arm to the \6 one and turn the pump upside down. Doing this created a new problem, this pump is rated at 7psi at 33gph. The Carter can only handle 5.5psi so you need to run a regulator. I also ended up going to 3/8 fuel line. Some consider this complete overkill. But my fuel delivery problems stopped.
