Does reading tactless and rude posts Bug You?

Do rude and unnecessary comments that are intended to make someone else feel idiotic start to rub you the wrong way after a while?
Lets keep the board free of this junk. If you agree that the person gets out of hand at times, lets pm him and express our disgust over their behavior. Or if you think I'm a moron, post it here for all to read.

Welcome to the internet. If you don't like him, ignore him. Like I told him once before, he dosn't have all the answers. He does have some good ones though, if you look past his harshness. Lets face it, alot of the questions asked can be answered just by handling the problem yourself, or getting a shop manual._________________ Eric

Greetings, Mr. anonymous "guest". Nice of you to join us, whoever you might be. It's regrettable you dislike my posts. I suggest you avoid reading them.

I have no way of knowing whether you're a moron or not. What's your real name (or the name you use when you post on this board)?

Very important point you make here. Ever hear the old saying "There's no such thing as a stupid question"? That's wrong. A stupid question is the kind that the asker could answer all by himself by just thinking about it, or by making use of available information sources (shop manual, etc.).
That's not the same thing as a question asked out of ignorance. Ignorance is not a bad thing in itself. Asking a question out of ignorance shows a desire to learn, and that's an excellent starting point. The answer to a question asked out of ignorance might be "go look in the shop manual" or it might be several paragraphs or pages.
(the bad kind of ignorance is willful ignorance: "I've already made up my mind and I'm not going to let anyone confuse me with facts.")

A Slanted Gilligan's Island, never thought of it that way but it works....
The big picture "goal" is to keep the Slant Six "cause" and people together.
One great way to do that is to be able to openly share information, everyone is encouraged to do that in a way that makes this a helpful friendly and fun place to come and visit.
A balanced message board needs questions as well as answers, it needs activity, and ways for people to post their ideas and feelings, even if it's not SL6 related. Overall I feel that .org has done that.
Everyone is encouraged to keep this site positive, helpful and friendly.
DON'T ANYONE TAKE THIS FORUM FOR GRANTED. Chuck can pull the plug on us at any moment and beleive me, he will is this place gets nasty.
I love good banter, I like seeing the "personalities" in the messages, I have pretty "thick skin" so telling me I'm "all wet" does not bother me... much, Hey, it's a free website and we want people to speak their mind, BUT please "keep it clean" and try to be civil about what you post.
As for the moderators on this board, I think they do a great job,
They delete junk and outright offensive crap, they move messages to the correct forums. They "let things run" for the most part, mostly because all of us are "good little boys & girls". My hat is off to you folks.
Let's keep this site a nice place to come and contribute...'nuff said.

i guess theres always someone that upsets someone everywhere. thats just the way it goes. if everyone read their shop manuals and figured stuff out on their own, we'd have a pretty boring board here. dont give too many people that idea or the board might start to decline.

As a new /6 owner and under-educated shade tree monkey, this board is a godsend and the people on it have been more than willing to give of their time and advice. While some people's styles might be a bit different than others in answering questions, a good answer is hard to come by these days and I appreciate them here!
I'd be lost without this board (ok MORE lost is perhaps the accurate statement). |

Nope. I'm sure you've seen me tell folks the "fuel line fix" for hot restarts many times here. I also tell people the same fix on boards like Moparts, Moparchat, etc. That is the single most important and best mod I have done to my Satellite, and I really want to share it with others. Thanks again (for the umteenth time).
Doug, I agree that the mods here are good in letting things flow, and not letting anything get out of hand. The lack of moderators on the other slant board is the reason I no longer post there. Way to many personal attacks, belittling, name calling, etc. Its sad that happened to that board, as it was a good place for the less experienced/first car folks to go to get some answers for their relitivly simple questions. I don't mean that as a bad thing: ss.org seems to be more "hard core" to me, and a place I like to recommend to people that are serious about their slant powered cars, whether they like them stock or modified._________________ Eric

I say the rule of thumb should be to avoid personal attacks, though a little ribbing is good, healthy and needed sometimes (directed at me, included ). When there is a personal attack, I think it needs to be deleted, there's no place for it here .....and not having the balls to identify yourself if you do issue an attack on someone goes beyond cheesy, it is pathetic.
Now arguing on the other hand, provided it is kept somewhat professional, that is a good thing and I'd hate to see posters feel discouraged to dissent.
I vote that "off track" threads are a sometimes confusing and always wonderful thing that should be left alone, or just steered back eventually. You never know what kind of serendipitous tidbit, treasure of information or newly discovered knowledge you may glean from a post blown way off course.
