This is a forum for Slant Sixes. My original intention for the "Social Corner" was for social issues related to Slant Sixes, and that is still the case. This was not intended as a place for discussion of sex, politics and religion.
I have been "called on the carpet" by members pointing out that their teenage children read this board and some of the topics that have appeared here are not "family oriented". I agree.
If you want to discuss these kind of issues, I'm sure you can find many other places to do so, as one member pointed out.
I have deleted several threads that got too far off-topic. I think everyone has had the opportunity to say their piece, so let's move on and keep this a family oriented Slant Six board, which is why we are here in the first place. |

| Point taken. However, I believe that it would be best to aim for "family programming" and keep the topics (at least for the most part) related to the subject of the board. |

Agreed. Though I'm the first to admit I cuss like a sailer, I don't do it around people I don't know. This isn't the time or place for it. Like I said before, I'm not afraid to edit or delete a post. Don't like it, tough. Chuck trusted me to watch out for inappropriate words and topics, and thats what I'll keep doing until told by Chuck or Doug otherwise. If one desires an un-moderated forum, go to ss.com and have fun_________________ Eric

| I dont necessarily agree with the notion of taking it to "draconian" family and religion-sensitive levels of censorship, I for one am glad for some of the heated discussions here that have revealed more about our members' personal lives, I think that the line should be drawn at aggressive flaming and name-calling, but we are all people here, not just owners of cars, and as long as arguments on non car-related stuff is kept to one forum where those who dont like it can avoid, I welcome it. Make it a members-only board, so kids cant come in. There is another site I frequent that has a dedicated Rants and Raves forum and the rest of the site remains clean and harmonious. Just my POV, guys...

I'd just like to note that I'm glad the rule is for on topic "for the most part." Sometimes I might have a question or comment that isn't necessarily Slant 6 or even Mopar, but is something involving this community one way or another. One might even want to know this community's feelings on a given subject as opposed to those of a completely different community.
My $.02.

I really don't want to censor anything, but the truth is that there are certain subjects that are guaranteed to start a fight (or rant, heated discussion, whatever). Then the moderators, Doug or I have to step in and clean up the posts and smooth ruffled feathers. I have a thick skin, and it takes a lot to get under it. I am also very tolerant of other people's opinions as long as it is not being forced on me! But I am weary of the angry and antagonistic tone of these kinds of posts (flaming and name-calling) and so I believe that they should not go here.
I don't have a problem with any of my moderator's styles. There seems to be a pretty good consensus of what is tolerable and what is not. There will always be some who push the limits. I don't go through deleting off-topic posts just because they are off-topic. If that were the case I would not have created the Social Corner. But this is not a soapbox, and that is why I would prefer certain topics be "for the most part" off limits.
One of my favorite lines (from Robert Kraft) is:
"All things in moderation, honey, and moderation's the first to go." |

OK, based on the "Lost in Space" post I'll revise my standing on the issue, which I really should have done before now. My apologies.
I don't require anything in the Social Corner to be Slant related. The fact that you are here is the "Slant" connection. However, I do not care for posts involving religion or politics because, as I have stated before, they tend to lead to very heated discussions.
Sandy, et all, you are welcome to post about your marriage or anything else you choose to if you accept my humble plea to refrain from religion, politics, bad-mouthing other board members, and flaming. I am also not fond of bashing .commers. If it weren't for that site, this one would probably not exist, because they showed that there was an interest in the subject that warranted its own place on the Internet.
Hey, how about a little "Peace on Earth"?
Happy new year to all. |
