I have a dilemma concerning the air pump on my truck. The shaft is slightly bent at the pulley causing it to wobble and make noise.

I've taken it mostly apart once before to fix it but got as far as taking the rear plate with the fixed shaft off. I only tried a little to get the bearing out. And the inside looked pretty corroded, despite being functional.

My dilemma is that a replacement rebuild (NAP51209) from Napa is $100. I thought at one point they were only $40 or so.

Is it possible to clean up the pump and repair the shaft myself without spending so much money?

As far as I know, AIR pumps were not designed to be serviceable units. Go find one at a boneyard from and six or eight culinder motor and bolt it on.

$49.99 if you have an O'Reilly Auto Parts close by, part # 32-209, plus $3.00 core charge.
