| The turbo is an aftermarket T-60, .60 air and .84 exhaust. I should have gone with one that spools quicker, maybe next time. If the cam doesn't give me the bottom end I like or quicker spool, I'm thinking of either a trans-brake or a 100hp shot of juice down low. This would be next year or late this year though. My Charger pulls 1.70 60ft times so the Valiant seems really slow down low.

| Can you get a smaller (lower A/R) turbine housing? That will bring the boost up sooner.

Hey Josh,
Your right, I may need to get a smaller housing. I degreed in my new cam tonight. I just couldn't go this weekend without it. Getting put back together tomorrow morning. |

Yeah the lack of off-boost performance is the reason why I'm sticking with the 225 over the 170. The torque out to really help it wind up like a diesel (in theory). I would add a 50shot of nitrous. From what I've read the nitrous leaves the nozzle at 100degress cooler which should cool off your charge. The only problem is the fact that the ratio of 14 psi to the 50 shot isn't 1:1, but should help you untill you build full boost.
The t60 was a little bit big for what I mapped out, so the what josh was talking about might help too. I would assume you could change what your talking about without changing the whole turbo? I got Street Turbocharging by Warner which shos you how to read compressor maps from some basic calcs.
Does the hyperpak still have the ram effect on a turbo motor? I figured it may not or it would be doubled either one.

I shoulda built a 225, but about 10 years ago I purchased a new (no VIN) 170 short block off e-bay that had never been run. So, 170 it is. I also have a very good turbo book. I forget the name, its back at my shop. Back when I was collecting parts, the compressor map was telling me I should get close to a T60 if I wanted to spin 7000 rpm. Unless I figured it wrong. Anywho, the new cam revs to 6000 still making power, rear-end gets squirrly at about 4000 in first and part of second (245-60-14 street tires) and still no secondaries. Fairly slow out of the chute. The cam didn't help that. Still going racing. Need to look at a trans brake, already priced the juice setup. Thinking fogger to eliminate the spacer. Then a roll bar, belts, tranny shield, diet, WHEN WILL IT STOP$$$$ |

I would think so. |

The harmonic pressure waves are still there, even under boost so I would also think that the tuned manifold would continue to add some momentum to the boosted mixture.
I wonder if the boost would actually help offset some of the negitive effects of the waves moving in the wrong direction? N/A Hyper-Pak set-up seem to "hit a wall" as far as how the engine feels & "pulls", when the engine revs beond the RPM range the ram manifold was tuned at.

| I think it would help tune the manifold to a higher RPM as the speed of sound is higher at greater air pressure so the sound waves would traverse back and forth faster like the manifold was shorter.

Well, went racing last weekend. Good news and bad. Here is the best timeslip:
60' 3.383
330' 9.585
1/8 12.837
MPH 79.64
1000 15.410
1/4 17.598
MPH 102.09
I was having extreme down low problems. Pretty much a lack of power till the 330' mark. The motor wasn't missing or backfiring, just no power. I didn't shift into second till about 2-3 car legnths after the 330. Boost comes on around 3500-3750. It leaves the line at about 2000. I can stall it to around 2500 but then it drops to 2000. The good news is the MPH. It felt really strong when boost was there. This was all on the primary circut. No secondaries and 22psi boost. I did blow the head gasket in the #2 cyl. At least I hope it is. Haven't tore it down yet. |

Wow, that's great MPH. Nice car! Hope you get the fuel problems fixed, cuz it should run in the 13s at least.
Josh has it right with the "boosted ram" effect. You need shorter runners with boost to get ram effect at the same RPMs as a NA motor.

Say, what is the RPM range of the hyper-pack manifold? Maybe I should have gone with the shorter manifold. I just figured this one would have better (equal) fuel distribution.
I pulled the valve cover off and there is part of the gasket compression ring sticking out from the head mating surface. It blew into the lifter area. Is this normal? Most head gasket problems I've had are in the coolant. Although I've never had a /6 blow a gasket. |

| Did you use head studs? Have you picked up a wide band O2 yet? My head was walking all over the deck but it still had a steel shim gasket which probably saved it. I've since o-ringed the block and put in a copper head gasket. The car is still apart so I don't have any updates.

Hey guys, thanks for all your help. Couldn't do this project alone.
I do have head studs but used the gray fiber head gasket that came in the Felpro set from Car Quest. Where are you getting the copper head gaskets and can I use them without O-ringing the block? I don't have a wide band yet, I'll get one before it goes back together. That means I need to run race fuel also at $8.50 a gallon . I think I'll do some more head porting while the head is off also.
(shaker)What are you doing to you motor? You were running a bone stock one when the 12.90 et was run, right? |
