I thought it might be nice to share accomplishments and encourage others in their efforts. It's often easy to get bogged down or not do anything with a project for some time. Hopefully we can inspire each other.

My project which has spanned the past two weeks is all but wrapped up. I have rebuilt an A833 for my '67 Valiant. I'll be painting it black once it warms up a little which should be today or tomorrow!

I had never before taken an A833 completely apart, but with a '66 Dodge factory service manual and the 4-speed article on this board I made it through. I even made a tool to remove the reverse idler shaft. The parts budget took a $75 hit when I found a crack in the ring on the main shaft that separates second and third gears, but it's all together now. It's a shame the thing has to sit on the shelf and wait until I can afford a decent clutch and flywheel, but that's the breaks.

That is inspiring, going through your transmission Josh.

Just yesterday I completed porting my head in under 4 hours and didn't hit a water jacket Laughing also matched my intake.

Next phase is block prep then clean up/balance my crank.

Thanks Josh for bringing up the encouragement word! Next couple of weeks I will be glass beading a cylinder head and then having it magnafluxed. I also have a junk head that I am going to band saw apart to help with port work. In the mean time saving up for some K1 rods. I want to thank forum members for their advice, education, and encouragement!

I watched the snow not melt. Its sposed to be warmer for a few days. Mebbe with a little shovelling I can spring the Valaint free of its snowy confines.....a new manifold and carb await.

Last winter was a long one....this one is at least 3 weeks longer. I still have a foot of snow in the spot there was 2" last year before MATS.....

We are stuck in a rain & fog New England Coastal weather pattern with temps in the low 40's, while waiting for the last foot of snow to go.

Friday I mounted two horns MiDi sold me, a rather lackluster day while waiting for a warm dry day to finish painting under the hood. (see below) However, Thursday I managed to remount all the relays and driver's side wire harness, battery tray, remove old radiator, mount a transmission cooler to a new radiator with all the plumbing & test fit it, finish prepping the block for paint, mask off freshly painted inner fenders & fire wall, paint the steering box, and clean up over spray on the "K" frame. Also test fit a new Bouchillon kick down cable, ordered a longer throttle cable from Rock Auto for the repositioned carburetor.

In a holding pattern waiting for the machine shop to finish the head with over sized valves, new hardened exhaust seats, a .075" shave, and a bit of porting.

I pulled the windshield on the Swinger week before last, and last weekend I "fixed" the rotted out front edges of the windshield frame. (Have I mentioned how much I HATE vinyl tops?) Hoping to make the roof waterproof for the trip to Kearney this summer.

I've never done bodywork in my life. I debated on trying to learn to form sheetmetal patches and teach myself to weld, but chickened out, cleaned it down to bare metal, and used Por-15 epoxy putty to fill it all in. Smoothed it with bondo, sanded, primered, and it's all presentable for the first time in 10 years, at least on the surface. And more importantly, I'm hoping it'll repell the rain...

I know some folks will cringe with this ametuer, short-term approach, but getting the car ready for Kearney is my main concern right now. Thoughts?

If that area stays dry your repair should last a very long time. Were you able to paint the inside? The only problem I see is if rust creeps in from the inside and gets in between the epoxy putty and the steel and the epoxy comes loose.

I soaked the intake/exhaust nuts, head pipe nuts and the nuts and bolts that hold the intake and exhaust manifolds together with croil. hopefully when I swap to a 2bbl next weekend none of the studs or bolts break.
I also painted the kickdown linkage.

Mowed the lawn and...LOL....

Car, that's right I have a car to work on...darn winter!!!

Next week the block should be back for the Pak2 motor. Had a Little League Game today and did yard work. Took time to look over my 'pile of A-833OD parts and it looks like I need to order some 308L bearings and get one put back together. I also took some time to clean and prep the 1976 K-member my buddy welded up/unitized and reinforced. Tomorrow if weather holds up I'll prime it. Once the Hpak duster goes back into circulation, Beater Valiant will be getting the late K-member and a suspension/brake/rear axle/steering/transmission overhaul....
