Price set, need another tester

Just had e-mail from Johnny, the maker of the mount. Price is $29 for the parts to do one mount (two halves and a sleeve). Since Ceej has put his set into a race car, he'd like to have a street-driven test car as well. First shoutback to me (send me a PM with name, address, and detailed description of your car) becomes that tester._________________ 一期一会

Asian spool mount Baseline

On the Intek TRD vibration analyzer set to Velocity. (Inches/Second)
Idle/Neutral
Engine side of mount: .6"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .15"/sec
2000RPM/Neutral
Engine side of mount: .3"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .04"/sec
Idle/In Gear
Engine side of mount: .6"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .10"/sec
1500RPM/In Gear
Engine side of mount: .15"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .04"/sec
Best I could do with the tools available. I'll get some sound levels. Keep in mind I have a noisy car.
We may have to rely on my subjective input.

Interesting results, but...does it sound/feel any different/better/worse with the new mounts than with the old?_________________ 一期一会

That was the baseline. I haven't installed the new bushing.
I was busy removing scads of weight from the car this morning. No changes other than the bushing will be made until the test is over.
Tomorrow I plan to swap to the Poly and take the readings again.
I'd be willing to bet we won't be able to tell any difference in sound levels.
All I can hear is the intake and exhaust on this car, reverberating through to a passenger compartment devoid of most creature comforts!

Once I get my next engine in I'll bug Johnny for a set and see how they do since I'll be driving the duster to work... I'll be changing the BV over to a 1973+ K-member anyway so that may be a 'test bed' in the farther future as well...

Poly bushing vibration analysis

OK, here we go.
Idle/Neutral
Engine side of mount: .3"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .12"/sec
2000RPM/Neutral
Engine side of mount: .26"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .12"/sec
Idle/In Gear
Engine side of mount: .6"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .3"/sec
1500RPM/In Gear
Engine side of mount: .4"/Sec
Frame side of mount: .15"/sec
This bushing will transfer three or more times the vibration that the stock type bushing will. It's still doing very well.
Off for a road test with the sound level meter. If there's any difference, I would be very surprised.

Here are the pics of the spool mount after Ceej and I replaced it.
Before:
Comparison of the two..
Poly Mount installed...
I apologize for those with Dial-Up, it may take awhile for the page to load.
Getting the old mount was cake... installing the poly mount was a bit of a pain. The poly material is much wider on that mount than the original rubber, so to get it down into the k-frame was a bit of a chore. After that, we had a little issue getting the mount to line up correctly on the block, but after about 45 min we had the old one out, and the new one in.
Readings we got are above obviously. I noticed right off the bat that interior vibration was increased, and based on my previous experience with the car, it was by quite a bit. Stuff was actually vibrating...
After we got the car on the road, there really wasn't much of a difference between the poly and the standard rubber. The Poly material really didn't seem to care much about the heat from the exhaust, so all is good to go!
Enjoy!

I wonder if we want to have Johnny reduce the thickness of the exterior flanges?_________________ 一期一会

That would help with ease of installation.
It would only need to be a small change.
How would this effect fore and aft motion in the mount? I think it would be negligible, but that would be a question for the experts.
You may also want to see if he can utilize a softer material for the bushing itself. The inner sleeve may need to be modified for softer materials so it doesn't tear up the bushing. Questions for an engineer with some background in loading and wear properties of these materials.
The Poly bushing on the front motor mount of my 3 banger metro is nearly the consistency of silly putty. A three cylinder can really dance about, as you might well imagine. It is a similar type of mount, and seems to live quite a while.
Back to the slant six poly mount.
At peak transmittance, half of the vibration read as velocity made it through to the frame. That's a marked increase. In my application, having a stiffer mount is desireable. Driving from coast to coast, it would likely be tiresome.
After we finished working on the econoboxes last night I went to pull the Valiant back into the driveway. It was then that I really noticed the harshness transmitted to the steering wheel. It's definitely a noticeable change.
On the bright side, the car "Feels" more menacing. Kind of the same sort of feel one gets from a common pin V-Twin. "It shakes more, so it must be more powerful" kind of feeling.
I will wait 'till I have some run time on this bushing, and take the readings again. I won't be driving the car until I've wrapped the head pipes, so this data will be delayed a bit.
