Slixers,

I have set up a fully searchable and editable parts database on the forum (www.slantsix.org/parts). There is a link on the Articles page. Now when you have spent forever looking for that elusive part you can share that info in the parts database with the rest of us!

I have made this database open to everyone. I ask that you please keep it neat if you are going to add parts. Don't use ALL CAPS! It is too hard to read! Take a look at the current records and try to maintain the same pattern. I usually capitalize the first letter of each word for readability. I am hoping that interested contributors will keep it clean and that I won't have to restrict the ability to add your own stuff. It will be a lot easier for me if everyone can enter parts and I don't have to do it all. You MUST put in a password of your choice to add a part, and then you can use that password later to edit the part you entered. (You can only edit parts that you have entered.) If you don't want to make up your own password then just use "slantsix".

So check it out. I need feedback from you. If you think this is a good thing, then there is one caveat. The software for this is a 30 day trial with about 3 weeks left. If we want to keep it I will have to purchase it for $100, so I will be asking for donations. If I get $1.00 from 100 people then we are home.

I don't know of any other database like this on the web, so this could be a first for slantsix.org. The parts in there now are from 15 years ago and the prices are old, so they will have to be updated as I go along. I have tried to remove the companies that are out of business but left mfg. and part numbers for reference. If you find something wrong or have an update for me, send it (and comments) directly to webmaster@omnipages.com .

Enjoy!

Chuck Rivers

Very sweet. This could be the answer to all our prayers if it is not abused, and is filled with everything you can find. I added one as a test, I put in the Clifford Headers I was looking at and it worked great.

Steven,

Boy are you fast! I just got it posted a few minutes ago! Thanks for testing.

Chuck, I assume you are able to add a search field. With Clifford, I did not have thier mailing address. In that spot, I put ther URL (website). Can you add a website field?

Steven,

Yes, I can add fields, and this is some of the feedback that I want. The web site in the address field is perfect. One reason that I did not add more fields is that it fits the page width perfectly now (at least on my PC). I am expecting that there will be more fields wanted (such as Cost Date), and we will have to play with that as we go along. If I add a field, then I have to re-upload the database, because the database is not on my server unless I purchase the software.

FYI: I will be going out of town mid-weeek and will probably be gone through Sunday.

Thanks Chuck, this is a cool resource.

I like the idea of having / using an "open" password, that would make edits much easer for anyone as time passed and sources change.

Looks like it is a good idea to search for an item before adding it to the list.

Doug,

I agree on the searching. Right now only we can edit the parts that are already in the database, but if new parts are added with the password "slantsix", then anyone can update prices as they discover them. For updates to existing parts, we can edit changes now and change the password to "slantsix" for others to be able to edit later. Good suggestion.

Chuck's right on this one, guys, (and gals)! We, (collectively), don't have near the support that the V-8 community has, so I suggest we make it a permanent part of this board.

So......special this week! For only $11, you get to make the database permanent, support the cost of running this board, and get TWO, (count 'em, 2), slant 6 bumper stickers to put on any vehicle you want! YES!....for only $1 more than the regular price, you get all the above! Now's the time, for those of you that don't have that neat sticker! (Yes, I'm guilty, too)

My money order is going into today's snail-mail.

(Note to Chuck....hope you don't mind me posting this, and hope you have some stickers on hand)

Lots of bumper stickers left. Lets make this happen! There were a lot of you in on the original bumper sticker discussion that didn't order. (Maybe you didn't like the sticker?)

And I haven't gotten much feedback either. Now is your chance to speak up! Don't be shy!
