I just finished re-reading the fine article by Dan on installation of exhaust manifolds. Possibly I have overlooked it, but it would be nice to have an article on the various intake manifolds also. Examination of the intake on my 64 Dart 225 cu in motor reveals an intake manifold that has a tapped hole, plugged with a pipe fitting, in the #6 runner I believe. Could this intake manifold have come from a later year engine?

There are a lot of different intake manifolds over the years and across the various markets, even just looking at original-equipment items. Yours is likely the original '64-type intake (2205 902). This what you're seeing is a vacuum tap for use in cars such as the '60-'62 Valiants and Lancers and '62-'65 B-bodies with vacuum-operated heater/defogger controls, vehicles with power brakes, vehicles with the '66-'69 Clean Air Package distributor vacuum control valve, etc. Much later manifolds (late '70s, '80s) have two threaded ports in the #6 runner, one of which is used for a temperature sensor in conjunction with the Lean Burn system.

On cars without vacuum-operated equipment (such as a '64 without power brakes), a simple pipe-thread plug is installed in the threaded port.
